From the Office … Put the word out;
South West Do Care needs more volunteers!! We have some lovely people waiting to have a Do Care friend visit and help them stay socially connected while Heather is constantly needing extra assistants. You might know of a friend or family member who can find some time to volunteer for us. Let’s face it, you all know best, the fun we have on bus trips and activities and how much we treasure and value our volunteer Do Care friends. Don’t forget to book into our Shared Learning Day this month. Dianne Wright has recently been inducted onto the Victorian Honor Roll for Remarkable Women for her community work. She is also a trained psychologist and heads Pastoral Care at Mercy. We are looking forward to having her share some fabulous ideas/tips on positive ageing. If you are finding it a little harder to get up in the mornings (just like me) then feel reassured that we have passed the Winter Solstice and it’s looking up from here on in!

Susan’s splutterings…………..
Greetings to you this cold grey winter’s day. I trust you are all keeping snug and warm, and keeping the fluids up. It’s great weather for soup and all those cups of tea, or coffee, or hot chocolate. I would like to have a little chat with you
about Personal Alarms.
Have you got one? If not, why not?? Can I please encourage you to look into getting one. They are for your safety and your family’s peace of mind. I totally understand none of us plan to have a fall, or slip over, or cut ourselves. However, having a Personal Alarm will get you help very quickly when needed. For those who have one, are you wearing it now? If not, put down the newsletter and go and get it on please. You need to be wearing it for it to be of use to you. If it is near your bed, it is no help if you fall in the kitchen, or in the garden. ALSO, I would like to urge you to wear it ALL THE TIME, even when you go up the street. I understand it doesn’t work up the street, but if you have a fall outside your home on your return, it does work, and again, you can get assistance quickly. So, without meaning to sound bossy or pushy, we at Do Care do see the benefits & encourage the wearing of personal alarms at all times. We want you to be safe, and cared for as well as possible.
