Incremental Housing
Design firm Elemental has designed housing for an un-official settlement in Quinta Monroy in Iquique. Thedesign was controlled by a limited amount of funding.They only received a total of 7,500 dollar subsidy for 100 families. This money also paid for the land.

Elemental designed the expensive portions of thehouses that would be too expensive for the families tobuild. This includes the structure, kitchen,bathrooms, and roof. They constructed two floorsand then the residence are responsible for adding tothe house.

Elemental also designed a similar project for a middleclass neighborhood in Santa Catarina, Mexico. Theyreceived more money for the project increasing thesize. They built bathrooms, kitchens, stairs, roofs,and dividing walls.

Idea by architect Michael Reynolds. His goal was torebuild Haiti using recycled materials. The house as been
named Earthship and 120 sqf and uses 120 tires. Thehouse uses solar power and was also designed to collectwater shed, and have flushable toilets. Inhabitants werealso provided with green houses in order to grow their ownfood.
