Rotations Rotation: a transformation that turns a figure about a fixed point called the center of rotation.  An object and its rotation are the same shape and size, but the figures may be turned in different directions.

All rotations will be COUNTERCLOCKWISE unless otherwise noted.

Every time we rotate a figure 90 degrees, we switch the order of the coordinates, then switch the sign of the first one.

Example 1:

Example 2:

Example 3:

Counter Clockwise Clockwise

Rotate the point (3, 2) 90 degrees, 180 degrees, and 270 degrees. Then determine the rules for rotating a point CLOCKWISE

Example 4: Rotate the image 90 degrees clockwise about the origin.

Example 5: State the coordinates of the image after rotating it 270 degrees clockwise about the origin.
