Do You Want to Get Well?Part 22
John 3:16-17 (MSG)16 "This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no
one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and
lasting life.
John 3:16-17 (MSG)17 God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an
accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the
world right again.
John 3:1-2 (NIV)1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees
named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to
Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from
God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God
were not with him."
John 3:3-6 (NIV)3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." 4 "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's
womb to be born!"
John 3:3-6 (NIV)5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God
unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but
the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
John 19:39-40 (NIV)39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus
at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five
pounds.
John 19:39-40 (NIV)40 Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of
linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.

1. The power of words.
James 3:7-10 (NIV)7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being
tamed and have been tamed by man, 8
but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
James 3:7-10 (NIV)9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men,
who have been made in God's likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth
come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
James 3:7-10 (NIV)3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds,
they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
James 3:7-10 (NIV)5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of
the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on
fire by a small spark.
James 3:7-10 (NIV)6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the
whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

2. Think before you speak.
Proverbs 17:27-28 (NIV)27 A man of knowledge uses words
with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered. 28 Even a fool is thought wise if he
keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.
Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only
what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may
benefit those who listen.

3. Speaking well.
Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)21 The tongue has the power of life
and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:25 (NIV)25 An anxious heart weighs a man
down, but a kind word cheers him up.
