MidSouth Bancorp, Inc. is a bank holding company

headquartered in Lafayette, Louisinana, with total assets of

$936.8 million as of December 31, 2008. Through its wholly-

owned bank subsidiary, MidSouth Bank, N.A., the company

offers complete banking services to commercial and retail

customers in south Louisiana and southeast Texas. It has 34

locations in Louisiana and Texas and more than 170 ATMs.

The group is community oriented and focuses primarily on

offering commercial and consumer loan and deposit services

to individuals, and small and middle market businesses.

Established in 1985, MidSouth Bank has 27 offices extending

along the Interstate 10 corridor in south Louisiana located

in Lafayette (9), Baton Rouge (3), New Iberia (3), Lake

Charles (2), Sulphur, Jeanerette, Jennings, Thibodaux, Larose,

Opelousas, Breaux Bridge, Cecilia, Morgan City and Houma.

Additionally, the company has seven full-service offices in the

southeast region of Texas, including Houston, Beaumont (3),

Vidor, College Station and Conroe. It also has a mortgage loan

centre in Conroe.

MidSouth wanted to improve staff efficiency and

effectiveness and improve customer service within

their branch network.

acceptance, authentication and validation of bank

notes while making them instantly available for

dispensing to customers, relieving pressure

on tellers.

The installation of NCR Cash Recycler significantly

increased branch operational efficiency, particularly

in terms of teller activity, and at the same time

improved customer service.

Improve staff effectiveness

Every time a MidSouth teller visits a branch vault to

deposit or collect cash, their window is essentially closed.

This obviously has a negative impact on customer service

and branch efficiency. MidSouth wants to improve staff

effectiveness and productivity within its branch network.

Their challenge, therefore, is to find a practical way of

increasing branch efficiency (in particular the number

of transactions their tellers perform per hour) as well as

finding ways to address staff effectiveness. The question,

of course, is how.

MidSouth successfully installed their first NCR Cash Recycler in

a branch which was being renovated into a larger branch. This

provided the ideal way of maintaining high levels of customer

service during the building construction.

The NCR Cash Recycler solution delivers improved levels

of customer service for MidSouth customers by reducing

transaction time and improving teller effectiveness.

Specifically, the solution means MidSouth tellers no longer

have to visit the bank’s vault to deposit or secure notes;

teller windows remain open and operational which improves

customer service and customer satisfaction.

Tellers received training from NCR professional services.

They were amazed at the recycler’s ease of use and the value

the integrated solution delivered to their daily business

practices. Tellers commented that the NCR Cash Recyclers

design and ease of use meant they could learn how to use it

in 5 minutes.

In addition to improving operational efficiency and customer

satisfaction, the NCR Cash Recycler unit also improved branch

security.

MidSouth has plans to install more NCR Cash Recyclers

in selected high-volume branches. These units fit perfectly

into MidSouth’s strategic retail direction, due to the increased

number of customers being served, and improved customer

interaction.

The NCR Cash Recycler solution fits the bill perfectly.

This innovative technology automates the acceptance,

authentication and validation of bank notes while making

notes instantly available for dispensing to customers.

MidSouth chose to deploy the NCR Cash Recycling technology

with eight rolled storage modules (RSMs). These units best

suit MidSouth’s strategy as they enable branches to manage

the appropriate levels of currency while being able to accept

and dispense the primary US note denominations to

their customers.

The NCR Cash Recycler has a competitive advantage due to its

compact physical and service footprint coupled with a high

capacity. With its continuous feed functionality and with no

pusher plate/hopper to reposition or sliding doors to open,

the NCR Cash Recycler proves to be quicker for larger note

bundle size deposits and withdrawals, speeding up the overall

transaction time. As such, MidSouth looks to deploy further

units in the future.

The result improves branch productivity by reducing the time

tellers spend on the cash management (i.e., vault buy/sell)

process. The facilitation of cash management reduces

customer wait times, too.

In addition, the solution increases customer satisfaction by

freeing up tellers from routine tasks thus allowing them to

spend more time focusing on customers and their business

needs. And finally, the solution increases branch security;

the NCR Cash Recycler technology acts as a vault within the

branch network.
