overviewWind spin fan blades.

Fan blades spin the magnets inside the coil.

The changing magnetic field creates an electrical current in the coil.

The current travels to the light bulb, which completes the circuit.

The light causes a seizure.

CalculationsOf destiny

Faraday’s Law of induction. Faraday’s law states that the absolute value of the induced EMF is the absolute value of the derivativeof magnetic Flux over time.

The Coils. This equation is for a coil with one single wind. Thewe can create a useable power is because the outputpower is multiplied by the turns in the coil. Our coilHas around 1000 turns.

Output. We measured the voltage to be about 3V. So anequivalent system with one coil would put out3 one thousandths of a volt.

Efficiency.Power input over Power output. When we test witha 180W fan, and the wattage of the bulb is (1.5V x 10mA) = 0.0015W, the efficiency is output over input, 0.00008333…%NOT VERY EFFICIENT!!!

Design and construction issues

Coil and magnets-Getting magnets to freely spin inside the coil-Getting decent wire, and then coiling it-Magnetic field. And no dry ice after all.

Fan-Deciding what material to cut the fan blades out of, and how many to use-Deciding what to use as a hub to mount the fan blades to. -Actually attaching the blades to the hub

Achieving victory-Convincing the light bulb to light-Structural support for the fan blades-Chili and grilled cheese

Structure and mounting-Resting it on a piece of wood. And mounting the setup so that the fan and magnets can freely spin, and cause as little friction as possible.

Consistency -Getting the axel to spin well inside the coil.-Lubricant where necessary

…in conclusion

In the end, we spent $35.00 on materials.

Setting up a Windmill isn’t as easy as it looks

By delegating each group member tasks that they excel at, we managedTo finish the project in a reasonable time, and with maximum creativity.
