• All participants in this meeting have certain obligations under the IEEE-SA Patent Policy. Participants:
– “Shall inform the IEEE (or cause the IEEE to be informed)” of the identity of each “holder of any potential Essential Patent Claims of which they are personally aware” if the claims are owned or controlled by the participant or the entity the participant is from, employed by, or otherwise represents
• “Personal awareness” means that the participant “is personally aware that the holder May have a potential Essential Patent Claim,” even if the participant is not personally aware of the specific patents or patent claims
– “Should inform the IEEE (or cause the IEEE to be informed)” of the identity of “any other holders of such potential Essential Patent Claims” (that is, third parties that are not affiliated with the participant, with the participant’s employer, or with anyone else that the participant is from or otherwise represents)
– The above does not apply if the patent claim is already the subject of an Accepted Letter of Assurance that applies to the proposed standard(s) under consideration by this group
• Quoted text excerpted from IEEE-SA Standards Board Bylaws subclause 6.2
• Early identification of holders of potential Essential Patent Claims is strongly encouraged
• No duty to perform a patent search

• Supporting a maximum throughput of at least 20 Gbps – Throughput is measured at the MAC data service access point
– Expected to provide improvements of over 3 times
• Maintaining or improving the power efficiency per station
• Indoor and outdoor operations in license-exempt bands above 45 GHz
• Enabling backward compatibility and coexistence with legacy directional multi-gigabit devices (defined by IEEE 802.11ad-2012 amendment) operating in the same band

PARNG60 SG status review
doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/0496r7
Submission
• The principle of scaling the IEEE 802.11 PHY and MACs to higher throughput is well established by previous amendments, such as IEEE 802.11ac-2014 and IEEE 802.11ad-2012
• NG60 builds on the broad knowledge base and system design experience of IEEE 802.11ad devices. – For example, NG60 will consider MIMO and channel bonding that not
only significantly improve throughput, but also allow reuse of technologies and testing being used in the previous amendments.

CSD: Distinct Identify & CompatibilityNG60 SG status review
• NG60 is different from other IEEE 802 wireless standards/projects in that it is specific for 802.11 WLANs and aims to provide data rates in excess of 20 gigabits per second for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint indoor and outdoor usages for license-exempt bands above 45 GHz.
• NG60 will ensure coexistence and backwards compatibility with IEEE 802.11ad, thus creating a solution compatible with existing IEEE 802.11 deployments.
• Coexistence with other systems for license-exempt bands above 45 GHz will be evaluated and documented in Coexistence Assurance document.

Selection Procedure
May 2015
• Two approaches have been in use in the IEEE 802.11 WG to develop various amendments
• Call for proposals (CFP): • Proposals may be complete or partial proposals.
• Proposals are submitted by a deadline, which is determined by the TG.
• Requires the harmonization between various proposals in case multiple proposals are received.
• Specification framework document (SFD): • SFD is a high level requirement document describing features related to
MAC, PHY, MIMO, etc. Allows participants who may only be interested in specific features and not on others to submit their proposals.
• A gradual approach for developing main features of the amendment as the work in the TG progresses.
• Consensus is built gradually as it relates to a specific feature.
doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/0496r7
Submission Slide 40 Edward Au (Marvell Semiconductor)
The CFP Approach
May 2015
• CFP was the approach followed in TGn. Three full proposals and many partial proposals were submitted. • None of the full proposals achieved the required 75% approval ratio.
• Much time was spent to harmonize complete proposals and come up with a single proposal.
• CFP was also used for TGad. One complete proposal was submitted and it absorbed a number of partial proposals.• Once the complete proposal was approved, the development of IEEE
802.11ad amendment progressed relatively fast.

The SFD Approach
May 2015
• SFD was used in the development of 802.11ac amendment• MAC, PHY, MU, and Coexistence features were developed gradually and
in parallel.
• Proposed specification, which includes all the items in SFD, was introduced and approved by the TG
• TGah and TGai have also used the SFD approach.
• TGax is also now busy in developing its SFD
