Section 1.6 Subtraction of Real Numbers

In this section we will be reviewing several “properties.” You will be expected to know these very well and how to use them when solving problems. If any of these are not clear, you need to tell me NOW! Otherwise, I will assume I am boring you with information you already know. The following rules (properties) are from your text.

I do not expect you to rewrite subtraction problems as addition problems first. In fact, I would prefer it if you could just “simplify the signs” and then “simplify the terms.”

Examples:

Homework: MLP (MyLabsPlus) and the following problems from the text.1 through 8 Copy all of the problems and fill in the blanks.120 Copy the problem and simplify in a top down manner.124 Set up a problem based on the information given and solve in a top down manner.

Answer in a complete sentence.136 Copy the problem. Answer whether the statement is true or false. You must

support your answer by making up 2 different problems using different pairs of numbers for “m” and “n.”

142 Copy the problem and answer the question from the directions. You must support your answer with real numbers substituted in for the variables.

MLP problems MLP quiz, and Text problems due __________ 8 AM
