2015 AGED CARE APPROVALS ROUND – ESSENTIAL GUIDE

CHAPTER 6 – REGIONAL DISTRIBUTION OF AGED CARE PLACES

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The following ‘Regional Distribution of Aged Care Places’ provides the indicative number of residential aged care places and home care places that have been made available in each Aged Care Planning Region, by state and territory, for the 2015 ACAR.

In addition, specific geographic locations, special needs groups and/or key issues that are a focus within each Aged Care Planning Region are identified.

While there may be an identified focus within an Aged Care Planning Region, applications are encouraged from applicants seeking to provide care in any location and to any of the special needs groups (including CALD language groups) or key issues, including dementia, where aged care places have been made available.

The special needs groups and their abbreviated terms listed in the following tables are as follows:

Special Needs Groupso people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities (ATSI)o people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD)o people who live in rural or remote areas (R-R)o people who are financially or socially disadvantaged (FSD)o veterans (VET)o people who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless (HOM)o care leavers (CLV) o parents separated from their children by forced adoption or removal (PSC)o lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people (LGBTI).

The Department does not guarantee that the exact number of places listed in the ‘Regional Distribution of Aged Care Places’ will be allocated to each region. The final allocation of places will reflect the best use of all of the available places, based upon the applications received and outcomes of the overall assessment process.

Aged Care Planning Regions

Aged Care Planning Regions now align with the Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) structure. As such, geographic locations that are a focus within an Aged Care Planning Region are listed in most cases by their SA2 name (and in some cases by a specific township). Maps of Aged Care Planning Regions, including SA2 names and boundaries, are available at the Department’s website by selecting the following link.
