BaptismThe Sacrament of baptism is the first Sacrament received and the gateway to the other sacraments of the church. Through the receptions of this sacrament, individuals are freed from sin and reborn in the new life of grace; there is also a configuration to Christ with the imparting of an indelible character and incorporation into the community of the faithful, the church.
Infant Baptism
For the baptism of infants (children who have not attained the age of reason, considered to be the age of seven), the
parents, and secondarily the sponsor(s), have the responsibility of sharing their own faith through this sacrament. The priest or deacon is to make sure that the parents are well prepared through an appropriate catechesis concerning their important role in the spiritual formation of the child.
Sponsor(s) also have a very important role in the child’s life, A sponsor should be Catholic, have made his/her First Communion and Confirmation. A letter from the sponsor’s pastor stating they are in good standing is required.
Baptismal Classes are offered the 1st Thursday of each month at the Religious Development Center, Building 1344 at 6:00 p.m. Call 725-3518 for reservations.

Catholic Wedding
But Jesus told them, “Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, “God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh. “Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” Mark 10: 5-9
Marriage preparation in the Catholic Church of three phases:
1) Pre-marriage counseling. Couples meet with the priest or deacon performing the ceremony. The purpose of these sessions is to assess the moral and spiritual readiness of the couple to make a marriage covenant. Couples should come prepared with a current copy of their baptismal certificate (i.e., issued within 6-9 months of the wedding).2) Catholic Pre-Cana and Engaged Encounter Weekend. This is a combined information and skills training program. It consists of a one-day conference and weekend (Fri. – Sun.) For cost and reservations go to www.engagedencounter.org or call 858-490-8296/97.3) Liturgy planning. Planning the wedding ceremony consists of Selecting Scripture, readings, music and participants. This is Is done in conjunction with the priest or deacon.

All of our Faith Formation programs are offeredFree to Military Families. Our programs are from Pre-Kindergarten to 8th level. Our Confirmation classes are for age 14 or older
First Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is the sacrament in which the faithful, acknowledging sorrow for sins committed after baptism and with the desire to reform their lives, obtain forgiveness from God by confession of sins to a priest. By means of this sacrament, those who confess their sins are reconciled to the Church for their offenses
First Holy Communion
The Eucharist is the summit of all Catholic worship and life, the memorial of the death and resurrection or the Lord. All the other sacraments lead to the Eucharist.
First Reconciliation is done during the first half of the class from September to January it is done mainly in second level. The next half of the class is preparing for First Holy Communion
Special Sacrament Class
This class is for children over the age of seven that have not yet made their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. They continue in the regular class of their level in addition to the special class, in order to receive those sacraments. This is from September to May.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Children
A child of seven has reached the age of reason and is of “catechetical age.” The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children states that such children are capable of “receiving and nurturing a personal faith and of recognizing an obligation of conscience”. For the purpose of Christian initiation, children who have reached the age of reason are considered to be adults. Thus, their formation should follow the same pattern as that of adults, appropriately modified for their age, and they should receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. This class is for those children over the age of seven who have not been baptized
Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation imparts a character and enables the person who has been baptized to continue on the journey of initiation into the Christian faith by the grace of the Holy Spirit. Those who receive this sacrament are empowered to witness to Christ in word and in deed, and to proclaim the gospel message. Our Confirmation classes are in our 9th level class; they start in September and go to May with a retreat in March and 40 hours of service projects.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
This is the process, instituted by Pope Paul VI on January 6, 1972, by which adults are received into full communion with the Catholic Church. There are four stages: (1) Pre-Catechumenate (“Inquiry”), which begins in September and attempts to answer questions, inviting the catechumens (the unbaptized) and the candidates (those who have been baptized as non-Catholics or Catholics who have never practiced) to begin personal prayer and provide a focus for the entire process; (2) Catechumenate, a period of intellectual and spiritual formation with an emphasis on Sacred Scripture; (3) Election, the various rites beginning on the First Sunday of
Lent (scrutinizes, presentation, anointing) leading to the Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.
The RCIA classes for adults are taught on Monday nights at Blinder Memorial Chapel in the South Mesa area. If you have any question for the class the instructor is Deacon C.J. Donarski.
