Parish Life / Vida Parroquial

Dear St Nick Family, Easter Blessings, Easter Joy! The bombing in Syria has cast a shadow on our Easter joy, but not damp-ened it. So many experiences of division and oppres-sion appear in our lives, like clouds breaking up the streaming sun rays upon our heads. Shadows, clouds, nightfall itself remind us of life’s realities of disap-pointment, pain and violence. How do we keep the Easter joy alive amidst all of this? Shalom, Peace of Christ, that’s how! And Jesus knew that as he greeted the gathered apostles and disciples after his Resurrec-tion. He knew that they could not sustain being “incredulous for joy and were amazed” as a perma-nent state because of life’s great struggles. However, with his Shalom, divine presence, condition of Sab-bath, attitude of hope, they would never waver again from His path. So, brothers and sisters of St. Nicholas, let us keep the PEACE of Christ strongly anchored in our hearts these 50 days and beyond. See below here a beautiful Thank You for last weekend’s youth activi-ties – a real cause of our joy. Dear Friends in Faith, Wow! What a weekend it was last week! I want to take this opportunity to thank you to each and every one of you for your prayers and support during our Youth Ministry Weekend. I want to say a special thank you to the following people... The parents who helped supply food for our Lock-

in potluck dinner and to Nora Bondi and Kathleen Ruppert for breakfast.

The teens and adult leaders who read at the Masses this weekend: Sol Robledo, Christelle Chavannes, Chasity Sanchez, Jeffrey Garcia, Daniel Villalobos-Terrazas, Anders Pride, Carlos Castro, Alex Roman, Pedro Rojas, Ian O'Donovan, Isabella De La Torre, Ella Coleman. Thank you to Marge Gambow and Marion Flynn for their support with the lectors.

The Level 8 and High School SCORE classes who helped at 11 AM Mass.

The Youth Council for their leadership all week-end, especially during the Lock-in and to the Teen Leadership Team, who are learning by example.

The Youth Minister Team for their support and their care for our teens.

Parish Life / Vida Parroquial

Fr. Tito and the Parish Staff for all they did to help me coordinate with the parish calendar and other support.

As I watched this weekend, I was humbled by the amount of care and support there is for Youth Minis-try. Cynthia Judge's reflection with Alex Roman brought tears to my eyes as she called each of us to look and see that our youth are here and that they are finding a home among us, as we so often wish for our guests and first-timers. Our teens often feel the same, like they are guests or that each time they come they are here for the first time and haven't quite felt wel-comed yet. That reality is changing here and it is evi-dent after a weekend like last when our entire parish comes together to celebrate our teens and acknowledge their presence. On Sunday, after the 1 PM Mass, the teens asked me to let them hang out in the Youth & Young Adult Ministry Center. I have to say, as tired as I was and wondering how they had any energy left, I agreed and we went up. I sat back and watched as the teens, once again, came together and they enjoyed leftovers from the Lock-in, danced, sang, laughed, and were outright goofy. I was again moved to tears when one of them noted to me how they felt like a little family. Church, that isn't just because of me. I only play a small role in how they feel they have a home at St. Nicholas Parish. It takes a village, right? Yes, it does and we are rais-ing our teens into mature, responsible, silly, and faith-ful young adults. I am truly blessed here at St. Nicholas Parish to hum-bly serve our youth and to continuing doing whatever it takes to make sure they feel they belong here, be-cause they do. They do belong here and you know it as much as I do and I appreciate that with all my heart. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Youth Ministry can't be without you. Blessings,

Bendiciones,
