Existing Bibliographic Resources on Asian and Pacific Americans

This document identifies existing bibliographic resources on Asianand Pacific American (APA) groups.' It is especially intended forstudents, teachers, researchers, and others who might berelatively unfamiliar with the historical, social science, andcreative literature related to APA groups.

The titles listed below are either bibliographies or literaturereviews.2 Many of the former are annotated. Some bib!iographiesappear at the ends of books or monographs; these have beenincluded only if they were specially compiled and go Leyond theusual documentation of references in a text. The reviews areuseful as they provide critical frameworks within which to examinecertain types of literature.5

The titles listed below are arranged by APA group except for aninitial general APA section and concluding sections on specialtopics and selected general resources on racial and ethnic groups. Some titles may not be widely available except thrcugh the use ofinterlibrary loan procedures. Those which are part of theEducational Resources Information Center (ERIC) document systemare so indicated. Copies of the latter may be ordered through theERIC Document Reproduction Service.' Also, several hundredlibraries and other organizations have collections of ERICdocuments on microfiche.5

This compilation of bibliographic resources is intended to becomprehensive rather than selective. However, there are obviouslydifferences in the quality and scope of these resources. In

general, the most recent titles are better as they incorporatemore of the literature related to APA groups. Tne APA literaturedealing with certain topics such education or the elderly is bestcovered by titles in the section on special topics. The extensiveannual bibliographies published in Amerasia Journal will beparticularly useful for individuals such as researchers withfairly speciliic interests; these are listed in the initial generalAPA section under the names of John Liu and Gary Okihlro.4

Literature related to APA groups is widely available.Historical and social science books on APAs and the publishedcreative writing of APA authors can be found in many majorlibraries. Research articles on APAs can be found in librarieswith sizeable holdings of scholarly journals in the fields ofpsychology, sociology, social work, education, history, and ethnicstudies. Finally, a nymb'er of libraries have Asian Americancollections which contain both secondary and primary materials onAPA groups.'
