Diplomats of various countries plant saplings at Embassies and High Commissions

As many as 40 thousand saplings planted today in New Delhi area

New Delhi– July 30, 2016

Union Home Minster Shri Rajnath Singh planted a sapling of Rudraksh at his official residence at Akbar Road in New Delhi today.

The Minister of States for Minorities Affairs, Government of India Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Member of Parliament Shri Sona Ram Choudhary and Shri Prasanna Kumar have planted saplings at their

residence under the Tree Plantation campaign of New Delhi Municipal Council.

The diplomats of the various countries in India have also planted saplings in the premises of their concerned Embassies and HighCommissions which include Hungary, Brazil, Serbia, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia. In the diplomatic areas the sapling of the plants have been selected by the concerned Embassies of their own choice which include Orchids, Red Cotton, Dwarf Marigold, Badalia, Callistemon, Bottle Brush, Silver Oak, Zapota, Achras Zapota, Ziziphus Mauritiana, Morus Alba, Neem and Ashok.

“I have appreciated the action taken by the NDMC local civic body. NDMC is planting saplings in Delhi particularly in the New Delhi area, public places especially in Embassies and High Commissions. I have to think, this is a good time for planting. This will make very green Delhi in this season by efforts of NDMC. I wish to team of the plantation and all the best to his excellent work for green efforts of NDMC and come-up the target of 50% of green area very soon” –His Excellency Mr. Esala Weerakoon High Commissioner of Sri Lanka said while planting the saplings in the premises of Sri Lanka High Commission at Kautilya Marg.

His Excellency Mr. Vladimir Maric Ambassador of Serbia has remarked on the occasion as “Thank You ! For the local authorities for helping us to increase the green area of our garden in the top location of Delhi in Chanakyapuri. We are trying to our best to maintain the garden in the in the embassy. It is a good job to plant the trees in the embassy area.We are very excited in participating in tree plantation in our premises. We had already some mango trees and now we have planted the guava and chiko trees in our garden. I am very happy and thankful for NDMC”.

As many as 40 thousands saplings of trees have been planted in the Lutyens Bunglow Zone and diplomatic area of New Delhi today under the ongoing tree plantation drive undertaken by NDMC in its all 14 zones. The 6000 members of team NDMC executed this work.

Under this special tree plantation drive the bungalows of Union Ministers, Members of Parliament, Judges of Supreme Court and High Court, Secretaries and Senior Officers of Central Government have been covered by planting fruit trees like mango, guava, jamun, ber and medicinal trees like aswagandha, brahmi, awala, ashok, alovera. The saplings of these trees have been planted at their own choice in the premises of their residence.

In the last some weeks the NDMC has planted 1.55 Lac of saplings against the target fixed of 2 Lacs during the current monsoon season.
