I am writing to invite you on a tour of Lakes Creek State School on behalf of the P&C association on Wednesday 9th October 2019 at 4pm.
The P&C in conjunction with the School is currently renewing its vision and strategy for the future due to Lachlan Moore's successful appointment to the Principal's position late last year and my recent engagement as the P&C President.
We are inviting both of you, due to the location of the school bordering the Rockhampton/Keppel boundary and our participation within our cluster schools which feed into North Rockhampton State High School.
Can you please let me know at your earliest opportunity if you will be available to attend this meeting?
Kind Regards

John Kimlin
Greetings from EY and thanks to Minister Grace, Andrew Fraser and Sharon Durham for assisting in getting this event in place.
Following on from a successful, similar event last year around the Future of Work, this year we thought that we should provide a forum for policy discussion about the Future of Education. More specifically - how school based education is placed to deliver the learning for tomorrow is one of the most important topics facing the community and governments.
EY respectfully invites you to join us at EY, Level 51, 111 Eagle Street to hear from our experts in the area of future education. We will be bringing in leaders from our firm nationally to this event. At the conclusion of the discussions and the day's sitting, you and your colleagues are invited to Level 51 at EY for dinner and to continue the policy discussion as our guests.
With so many pressures on schedules, this event is aimed at creating the time for facilitating policy discussion.
The run sheet for the evening will be -7.15pm - Meet at EY for pre-dinner drinks. As building will be locked, please meet John Kimlin at the base of 111 Eagle Street and he will accompany you to Level 51. John's mobile is7.30pm - Evening commences with a roundtable discussion on how school based education is placed to deliver the learning for tomorrow. Andrew Fraser will open the evening with introductions and opening comments. 8.00pm - Dinner service commences and discussion continues 9.30pm - Event concludes
I'm sincerely looking forward to the occasion and to bringing the best of EY to you.
Kind Regards

I am keen to arrange some time to update you on the services Act for Kids will deliver in the Rockhampton region on behalf of the Queensland Government.
Our current operations in Rockhampton consists of 18 staff who support more than 200 local families.
You will be aware that Minister Di Farmer recently announced funding for two new Sexual Abuse Counselling Services for children in Gladstone and Rockhampton. Act for Kids will be the operator of both these new services.
By way of background, Act for Kids operates from 26 centres across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, and we operate educational services in Western Australia. We offer prevention, treatment and education services to children and their families.
Financial year 2018/19, Act for Kids provided services to 46,084 children, parents and carers. Over the last six years, the number of people we've helped each financial year has grown by 339%.
Our services in Queensland include :
• Intensive Family Support: working with families to keep kids out of the child protection system
• Family and Child Connect: Early response program to connect families at risk of entering the child protection system with services that can support them
• Integrated Therapy: therapy for children which includes Psychology, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology
Our SafeKids program provides a safe environment for children, and works in partnership with Traditional Owners in the communities of Arukun, Cairns, Doomadgee, Kowanyama, Napranum and Pormpuraaw.
As indicated, the majority of the service funding comes from the Queensland Government.
Please let me know if you have some time to meet during a future Parliamentary sitting. Our CEO Dr Neil Carrington and I would be available to meet you at Parliament House, or alternatively you'd be more than welcome to visit our corporate office in Milton Uust off Coronation Drive).
Kind regards,
Stephen Beckett Executive Director Service Development

SPEECH
Good morning everyone - what an exciting event!
I'm delighted to be representing Queensland's Minister for Education, Grace Grace, who sends her apologies.
As Assistant Minister for Education, and as someone who hails from regional Queensland, I truly appreciate how important it is to be promoting STEAM education in the regions.

Congratulations to Townsville Enterprise Limited, in partnership with Questacon, for holding this important inaugural forum.
It will certainly enhance the understanding of contemporary STEAM education delivery models.
Promoting STEAM is a vital piece of the puzzle ensuring a bright future for northern Australia.
And it's true, that a focus on STEAM skills will help us unleash the full potential of Northern Queensland - and indeed northern Australia.
Being located close to many tropical and Asian countries with advanced technologies, coupled with the inherent ingenuity of Australian people, means opportunities in STEAM fields flourish.
To ensure we are well prepared to harness such opportunities well into the future, education is obviously key.
That's why the Palaszczuk Government has committed $81.3 million to improve STEM education, through the Advancing STEM in Queensland state primary schools initiative 2018-2021.
This is part of our Advancing education action plan for education, designed to ensure students are well prepared to become the entrepreneurs, innovators and collaborators of tomorrow.
STEAM is a vital part of a balanced learning program, particularly in contemporary society.
The Department of Education also has a specific Schools of the future STEM strategy.

This strategy delivers a range of initiatives to build teacher capability, lift student achievement and increase student participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Queensland's Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools, consistently demonstrates how Queensland schools are excelling at implementing our STEM strategy.
There are also other exciting things happening right across regional Queensland.
Thuringowa State High School, in partnership with James Cook University, for example, is working hard to strengthen outcomes for Indigenous students, socio-economically disadvantaged students and students from rural and remote areas, through the Queensland Virtual STEM Academies.
And it's fantastic that they are here today, presenting at the forum.
The STEM Girl Power Camp continues to bring female STEM students together from right across the state.
It helps them build their skills as STEM ambassadors in their regions, to nurture and encourage their STEM career aspirations.
Nearly 200 girls and 30 teachers have taken part in the initiative over the past four years.
We have also awarded 32 rural and remote STEM teaching scholarships worth $15,000 each, to build teacher capability in STEM.

This demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that all students, no matter where they live, have access to teachers with STEM expertise.
Part of our $81.3 million STEM education investment includes more than $27 million for STEM curriculum and teacher professional development initiatives during 2019-20.
This represents a 67 per cent, or $10 million, increase on last year's STEM investment.
The Queensland Government's #codingcounts plan for coding and robotics in Queensland state schools, is a key feature of our STEM education strategy.
Just last week the winners of the Premier's Coding Challenge were announced in Brisbane, with a range of fantastic application and programs being developed by students from grade 3-10
As well as critical and creative thinking and problem solving, digital technologies are a critical component.
More than 600 state schools have participated In the #qldtechschools initiative.
This brought primary and secondary school tech ambassadors together, to share ideas on how to integrate Design Technologies across the curriculum - including the Arts, Languages and Humanities and Social Sciences.
We also have a Robotics lending library for schools to access a fleet of Pepper and Nao humanoid robots.

Since 2018, more than 100 schools have borrowed a robot.
These opportunities allow students to engage with cutting-edge technology and hone their coding skills.
The Queensland Coding Academy also continues to support students and teachers across the state in Digital Technologies with more than 3250 educators currently enrolled.
Results
The results we are seeing from our investment in STEM include increased Year 12 enrolments in science and maths subjects (up to 3.4 percent from 2015-2018).
In 2018, we also saw an improvement in student achievement in every year level from Prep to Year 6 in science and maths.
Industry partnerships
In Queensland, the STEM Industry Partnerships Forum gives our educators opportunities to collaborate directly with more than 60 peak bodies and groups including Engineers Australia and Origin Foundation.
The 'Gateway to Industry Schools program' provides another example of STEM partnerships between schools and industry.
Some of these projects include:
• The Queensland Mineral and Energy Academy (QMEA), which is a partnership between the Queensland Government and the

Queensland Resources Council.
This partnership provides a talent pipeline of work-ready employees into the resources sector and other supporting STEM industries.
• Another example is the manufacturing and engineering project, which involves Queensland secondary schools collaborating with local manufacturing and engineering enterprises, registered training organisations and universities.
Together, they are helping build Queensland's manufacturing and engineering workforce for the future.
These collaborations with industry are helping to develop a shared vision for STEM education in Queensland.
Conclusions
In so many ways, we are helping Queensland students develop the skills they need, delivered by our vision of Schools of the Future.
And in so doing, we are unlocking the huge potential that there is for ongoing economic development across regional Queensland.
Employment in STEM, as you well know, is growing twice as fast as other occupations and higher rates of innovation will be required for businesses to stay competitive.
Our challenge is to ensure we prepare every young

And give them every chance to become the great entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

• The local member for Northern Beaches SHS is the Member for Hinchinbrook. Mr Dametto has not been invited to attend the site visit as he will instead be invited by the Principal to the official opening once the building is approved to be opened. We have been advised that the building's construction is completed but a number of fixtures and minor works on the project are still being finalised, so the visit on Monday won't be the official opening as such ( this will be held early next year).
• Brittany's visit will be an inspection of the new facilities with the school's Principal, who has said she is very excited to welcome Brittany to the school.
• The 2020 Ready project includes a new secondary learning centre, 5 classrooms, two flexible learning areas and a robotics lab
• Brittany's speech and a briefing note for the STEAM event are currently being prepared by the department. The function profile is completed and attached for you.
• Local Townsville MPs have been invited to attend, I believe a number have sent their apologies.
• Scott Stewart was invited to the site visit at Northern Beaches SHS and the STEAM forum but will be in Brisbane on Monday on committee business.
Thanks! Molly

Solar panels coming for Andergrove State School
And erg rove State School will soon receive 159 solar panels as part of the Palaszczuk Government's $97 million Advancing Clean Energy Schools (ACES) program.
Assistant Education Minister, Brittany Lauga joined local MP Julieanne Gilbert at Andergrove today to inspect the installation of the panels.
Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert said it was fantastic to see the ACES program rolling out across the state and particularly, in Mackay.
"It's great to be at Andergrove today where the school will not only receive solar panels, but a range of other energy saving measures such as hot water system timers, sensor lighting and replacing fluorescent lights with LED lights.
"With 159 panels to be installed at Andergrove State School, the Palaszczuk Government is delivering on its commitment to reduce the energy costs of our schools.
"Mackay State High has already had 270 panels installed as part of the ACES program - such great news for our local schools.
"This initiative is also good news for Mackay's local economy with the program expected to support 320 local jobs across the state over the lifetime of the program," Mrs Gilbert said ."
Assistant Education Minister, Brittany Lauga, also confirmed all energy audits have now been completed for Phase 1 of the program, identifying how the first 212 schools across Queensland would benefit.
"This program is taking a tailored approach to identifying the best energy saving measures to suit local conditions.
"It will not only help reduce the energy costs at our schools but will also make a significant contribution towards our Government's target of 50 per cent renewable energy use by 2030.
"This outstanding initiative is showing Queensland state school students and their communities the Palaszczuk Government's strong commitment to a cleaner, greener energy future."

AS - - Re North Keppel Island Education Centre - Proposed Scholarships Keppel EO

Meeting organizer

would like to discuss the possibility of setting up scholarship for the North Keppel Island Education Centre.
Proposal for NKIEEC Scholarship Fund
The non-attendance of students from disadvantaged backgrounds during scheduled class visits to NKIEEC is a significant problem, 123 students in 2019.
Depleted class groups result in under-utilisation of resources, including transport, accommodation and staff. It is also a setback for the students concerned as they miss out on a significant learning, recreational and social experience and their disadvantage is reinforced.
It is proposed that a permanent fund be established which would provide scholarships to subsidise the attendance of up to 50 students per year. It is proposed that the subsidy would be $120 per head, which is 38% of the normal weekly charge per student.
It is recommended that a perpetual NKIEEC Scholarship Fund be established through Queensland Community Foundation {https://qcf.org.au/giving/create-a-named-sub-fund/) and sufficient capital, possibly up to $300,000, be raised and invested to provide the scholarships from the annual interest generated. Scholarships for disadvantaged students would be allocated by a committee comprising the Principal, a senior staff member and the P& C President.
It is envisaged that it would take a least 12 months to contact donors and raise the required capital. To do this, the Fund could be launched early in 2020 with the aim of providing the first scholarships in 2021. NKIEEC has already submitted an application for a grant of $10,000 from Gladstone Port Corporation to provide scholarships in 2020. However, we should not rely on annual grants in future years.
The task would be made easier if a service club such as Lions, Rotary or Probus would agree to collaborate with the P&C to advertise the Fund and contact donors. 2. Waste and recycling issues in the Yeppoon Central Shopping Centre.
Please find department's advice below on the concerns has raised with the Mcconnel EO:
Sharing of documents between Queensland Government Departments
• Information collection and storage is governed by a range of legislation and policy within Queensland including the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (the Act). The Act governs how Queensland Government agencies collect, store, use and disclose personal information.
• It is good practice to share relevant information between agencies; however, parents must give consent for the relevant information to be shared.
• Where students have accessed support from Queensland Health, their parents are encouraged to talk to the school about the support their child has received, and share any reports or written information they may have.
• If further information is required, the school or a Department of Education (department) employee can request that parents give them written consent to request relevant documents and information from Queensland Health.
More professional assistance from allied health and occupational therapists
• The department employs speech language pathologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists to support schools to make reasonable adjustments to enable students with disability to access and participate in education.
• In 2019, the department allocated $33.36 million for therapy services and employed 77.3 full-time equivalent (FTE) occupational therapists and 199.9 FTE speech language pathologists.
• Schools may also use other funding provided by the department, for example Investing for Success funding to purchase additional therapy services.
• In term 3 2019, 16 schools purchased additional occupational therapy support and 383 schools purchased additional speech-language pathology support.
• All state schools can access these services as visiting services. Therapists work as part of a school team.
Assistance for families of students with learning disabilities
• has suggested a register of available assistance to help families with children who have learning disabilities.

• The department does not have a comprehensive list of all assistance available. • The department provides funding to a number of organisations to support students with disability in schools.
However, this support is usually provided at the request of the school rather than the family. • Further information and a list of funded organisations can be found on the department's website at:
