Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

• Who has taken the temperature?• Where was it measured?• How was it measured?• Was the temperature record unusual?• Has any scientific study proved a measurable link to human

activity? If so, what activity? • Is modest global warming good or bad?

Page 3: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

What Was The Amount of Global Warming That Was Portrayed As

Cause For Concern? Over the 20th century it was a claimed rise of

0.75 Degrees Celsius = 1.8 Degrees Fahrenheit

In the U.S. most of this temperature increase was confined to urban areas; matched rural areas

showed almost no increaseThe “Climategate” affair has cast doubt on the

validity of this temperature record

Page 4: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

“Climategate”: A Betrayal of Trust• Thousands of internal e-mails and documents from the

UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) advisory center… the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of East Anglia University U.K. were leaked or hacked late November 2009 to a Russian web-site which claimed that Russian temperature data had been tampered with to assert far more warming than had actually occurred

• Independent reviewers found a general pattern of shutting out dissenters, manipulating climate data to fit the IPCC global warming story line, and illegal dodging of Freedom of Information Act requests by a small, politically connected group of climate scientists

• Official reviewers here and in the U.K. have whitewashed those involved by not conducting in-depth investigations

Page 5: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Climategate “Science Hall Of Shame” Includes U.K. and U.S. Members

• Prof. Philip Jones, U.K Director CRU…resigned/re-instated• Prof. Michael Mann, Penn State University (prior UVA)…

originator of the discredited “hockey stick” graph; “cleared” by in-house Penn State investigation; subject of fraud investigation by Virginia Attorney General’s Office for possible misuse of public funds while at UVa

• Dr. James Hansen, NASA/GISS…selective temperature sourcing and data “adjustments” producing a warming bias

• Prof. Kevin Trenberth, National Center for Atmospheric Research; IPCC lead author…promoted unsubstantiated claims of hurricane increases caused by global warming

Page 6: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Hall of Shame, Continued:• Prof. Trenberth: “The fact is that we can’t account for the

lack of warming at the moment (October 2009) and it is a travesty that we can’t”; “The fact that we can not account for what is happening in the climate system makes any consideration of geoengineering quite hopeless as we will never be able to tell if it is successful or not”

• Prof. Tom Wigley, National Center for Atmospheric Research…lowered temperature blip for mid-20th century

• William Connolley, U.K. Green Party activist…since 2003 rewrote 5,428 Wikipedia climate articles , turning it into the “missionary wing of the AGW movement” blocking access to contrary opinions; member of Realclimate.org

Page 7: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

More IPCC Shame• Dr. Benjamin Santer (Lawrence Livermore National

Laboratory): lead author of Chapter 8 of the 1995 IPCC Working group report now admits (January 2010) that he alone arbitrarily deleted the five original statements by the scientists in their finalized draft of that chapter which had stated that “there is no discernable human effect on global temperatures”, reflecting his, non-peer-reviewed opinion, and upholding the IPCC man-made climate change premise

• The IPCC was created to establish mankind’s influence on climate; not to be an independent climate research entity

• “Climategate” scientists appear to have let personal belief and advocacy to taint their impartial scientific analysis

Page 8: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

IPCC Melting Himalayan Glaciers 2035 Prediction…Now Recanted

• The latest IPCC report (2007) claimed that the world’s glaciers were melting so fast that those in the Himalayas could vanish by 2035

• January 2010: IPCC admits that the claim was based on a single, non-peer reviewed, popular science magazine (New Scientist) article, then quoted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and not expert reviewed by the IPCC

• The author of the article now admits his claim was made to support the politically correct view point of the IPCC

• The activist group Greenpeace is now revealed as the source for non-peer reviewed claims of coral reef and Amazon degradation, in that same IPCC report

Page 9: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Headline From U.K. Sunday Daily Mail, February 14, 2010

• Data for “hockey stick graph” has gone missing

• There has been no global warming since 1995

• Warming periods have happened before, i.e. in medieval times – but NOT due to man-made fossil fuel usage or CO2 production

Page 10: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

More Doubt About IPCC Scientific Impartiality

• Railroad engineer, Rajendra Pachauri, has been the chairman of the IPCC since 2002

• During January 2010, reports from Britain and India revealed his ties to a number of energy companies, including The Energy Research Institute (TERI), the Oil and Natural Gas Commission , Indian Oil Corporation, the National Thermal Power Corporation, and the TATA Group, some of which received funding based on these IPCC climate claims

• India has announced plans to leave the IPCC and form its own climate panel

Copenhagen December 2009 Climate Conference “COP-15”

• A much hyped, follow-on to the Kyoto Protocol of 1997, which covered the period of 2008-2012, sponsored by Club of Madrid, the EU Commission, and the UN, amongst others…attended by thousands of activists and politicians

• The original 1997 Kyoto treaty was signed by President Clinton, but he never submitted it to the senate for ratification

• The “Copenhagen Accord” calls for no 2020, nor 2050 emission reductions and has attracted few signatories

• Political squabbling over wealth re-distribution and one-world governance replaced concerns over global climate

Global Temperature Record• There has been an apparent period of global warming at

an average baseline trend of 0.7 C per hundred years since the end of the “Little Ice Age” (A.D. 1300-1850), although the absolute validity of the surface temperature record is now questionable because of NOAA and GISS “adjustments”, and “loss” of original temperature data

• Why did “Little Ice Age” end around 1850, well before the beginning of the modern industrial age and major increases in carbon dioxide emissions beginning in the late 1940s?

• Why did the “Medieval Warm Period” occur during A.D. 900-1300 and produce global temperatures several degrees warmer than now, even though carbon dioxide levels were very much lower than now?

Page 24: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Is There Anything Unusual About The Global Temperature Record Since The Ending Of The

“LITTLE ICE AGE” Around 150 Years Ago?

• Three similar periods of increased rates of warming: 1860-1880, 1910-1940, and 1975-1998

• In between these warming periods, global temperatures declined at about the same rate, but In the early 1970s, newspaper and magazine headlines proclaimed numerous scientific predictions of a coming ice age, world famine, and deaths; of course nothing of the sort happened

• For the past seven years the four major international global temperature monitoring agencies have documented a global cooling even as carbon dioxide increases: a non-correlation

Surface Temperature Record Problems• Surface temperature data accuracy susceptible to faulty placement

of recording instruments, urban heat island bias, in addition to investigator “warming” bias at CRU, NASA/GISS, and NOAA

• By 1990 NOAA dropped 4, 550 of its 6,000 global thermometers, preferentially retaining those in warmer urban sites, retaining only one above the Arctic Circle

• Only 3 % of US temperature sites(865 out of 1,221) meet the Class 1 quality rating of the National Administration’s National Weather Service for a technically correct location

• Land surface stations can only monitor 30% of the earth; the rest of the earth is water covered

• A large number of temperature monitoring sites in Russia have been abandoned; most were in cold areas; their loss produced a warming bias in the world data

Fear Global Cooling, Not Global Warming

•History of more deaths in cool periods because of disease and famine resulting from crop failures• More cardiovascular and respiratory deaths in winter, particularly for women• More falls and broken bones in winter• More winter related traffic and pedestrian deaths• Many climatologists now forecast 20 more years of global cooling, as cooling/warming cycles have averaged 30 years each in the recent past

Page 34: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

What Created The Current Fixation With Global Warming And Climate

Crisis?• Enron Energy was early to promote green energy and

natural gas in the 1990s as a new profit making scheme; coal was an energy competitor and was demonized by Ken Lay’s company

• Enron lobbying in Clinton/Gore era• Gore film Inconvenient Truth and “The Hockey Stick”• Earth Day in Rio 1992: anti-capitalists+environmental

activists; Canadian oil magnate Maurice Strong• IPCC formation in 1988 and the 1997 Kyoto protocol• United Nations’ One-World-Government Solutions

Page 35: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Global Warming Agenda• Club of Rome: “The common enemy of humanity is man; we

came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming…would fit the bill”

• Prof. Stephen Schneider, Stanford Climatologist: “we have to offer up scary scenarios…make little mention of doubts…decide the right balance between being effective and being honest”

• Paul Watson, co-founder of Greenpeace: “it doesn’t matter what is true, it only matters what people believe”

• Maurice Strong, UN Environment Program: “The U.S. is the greatest threat to the global environment…isn’t it the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? “ IPCC formed to find mankind’s climate impact

Page 36: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

“The Science Is Settled”•A falsehood – true science is never settled and is always open to a better explanation:

The sun revolves about the earth; the earth is flat; peptic ulcers are caused by excess acid; Euclidian geometry; Newtonian physics…all disproved or revised

•Saying something is so does not make it so; traditional science does not depend on consensus•Arguments to authority are not scientific proof•A cowardly position taken by those unwilling or unable to engage in open, scientific debate

Page 37: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

The Science Is Settled?

• January 2010: IPCC contributor Susan Solomon now reports that water vapor levels in the stratosphere had dropped in the past decade coincident with the observed global cooling, even as CO2 levels continued to rise

• January 2010: Swiss Federal Research Institute now reports that atmospheric CO2 amplification of global warming is 80% less than previously assumed

Page 38: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Saturated Fat Causes Cardiovascular Disease

“The Science is Settled”…Really?• A 2009 analysis of 21 epidemiological studies

monitoring 350,000 people found “no association between saturated fat and risk of CHD or stroke”

• A 2008 report from the World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization of the US found that “intake of saturated fatty acids was not associated with CHD events or mortality; fatal CHD were not reduced by low-fat diets”

Dirty Money? Environmentalists claim that science funded by “dirty oil

money” is corrupt and to be disregarded, yet:– Canadian oil magnate, avowed socialist, Maurice

Strong, together with the U.N.’s Kofi Ann, was one of the founding fathers of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 1988

– The Pew Charitable Trusts were founded on Sun Oil money; the Sierra Club receives funding from the Pew Trusts

– Standard Oil fortunes funded the Rockefeller Institute– Cities Service Oil fortunes funded the Alton Jones and

Blue Moon foundations; the Sierra Club receives funding from Blue Moon

Page 41: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

WHAT IS THE GREENHOUSE HYPOTHESIS?• A popularized, fictional allusion to a garden

greenhouse although the Earth does not have a glass house roof and walls, but is open to outer space

• The Greenhouse Hypothesis supposes that the mixture of atmospheric gases hinders the loss of heat energy from the Earth out into space; that a warmer Earth evaporates more water vapor to the atmosphere, causing more heat trapping, amplifying the small, non-linear effect of carbon dioxide in a positive feedback cycle

• Space measurements suggest negative feedback

Page 42: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

What Are The Atmospheric Gases?

• Nitrogen comprises about 78%• Oxygen comprises about 20%• Greenhouse gases comprise

about 2%

Page 43: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Relative Contributions Of The Green House Gases

Page 44: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Man Made Carbon Dioxide vs. Naturally Occurring Carbon Dioxide

Page 45: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

What Is The Source For Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide?

• Naturally occurring sources of carbon dioxide are estimated to make up about 96% of total carbon dioxide in the atmosphere , +/-186 billion tons

• All man-made sources, called anthropogenic sources, are estimated to contribute about 3.25% to the total carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, +/- 6-7 billion tons

• By taking the 3.25% manmade contribution of total carbon dioxide emissions and applying that fraction to the 3.6% of the total carbon dioxide greenhouse effect, (0.0325 x 0.036 = 0.117%, approximately) one sees that the human contribution

of carbon dioxide is responsible for about 0.117% of the total so called greenhouse gas effect

Page 46: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

The Expenditure Of Tens Of Billions Of Governmental Funding Has Not Proved A Link Between Global Warming And Man

Made Carbon Dioxide

• IPCC global temperature/greenhouse gas computer models predict that there should be an increased rate of warming of the atmosphere around six miles above the earth’s surface

• Thirty years of satellite temperature records fail to show it---”the missing fingerprint”

Misleading Terminology By Climate Alarmists

1. “Global Warming” was rebranded as “Climate Change” to cover warming and cooling events so as to become the universal environmentalism scapegoat

2. The term “Carbon Pollution” was crafted in an attempt to taint life-sustaining carbon dioxide with the image of generic pollution (NOx, SO₂, lead, CO)

3. Since 1980, the EPA reports that emissions of the actual six “principle pollutants” have declined 49 percent

4. Carbon dioxide was not a “principle pollutant”

Page 51: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Tailored Terminology By Climate Alarmists

3. The latest make-over of terminology now gives us “Global Climate Disruption” as the catch-all,

blame-all, headline grabber

Page 52: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

“Climate Change”…A Problem?

• Whose climate needs to be changed?• What is the universally “correct” climate ?• Who shall decide the “correct” climate?• What group and mechanism shall be used to

change the climate? • Who will be responsible if the climate change

results in harm to some but benefits others?

Page 53: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

The “Climate Change” Language Of Fear, Media Sound Bites In Place of Science

• If current trends continue…• Unprecedented…• According to computer studies…• Not experienced since…• There is a XX% chance…• Scientists agree…• We must act now…• In my opinion…

Page 54: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

CARBON DIOXIDE IS

NOTA HEALTH POLLUTANT

A Supreme Court ruling allowed it to be classified as a “pollutant” based on existing

EPA automobile emission regulations, not on independent scientific grounds

With all due credit to Charles Dickens “If the law supposes that…the law is an ass…an idiot”

Page 55: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Your Life Depends On Plant Life;Plant Life Depends On Carbon Dioxide

The Basic Equation of Plant Life6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

chlorophyll + light + nutrients

In Words:Plants Convert Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Plus Water In The Presence of Plant Chlorophyll Into Carbohydrates

And Oxygen

Page 56: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

The Benefits Of Increased CO₂ To Plant Life…And To Your Life

• Increased atmospheric CO₂ promotes increased plant growth…a free fertilizer

• Increased atmospheric CO₂ enables plants to resist stress and use less water

• Plant nurseries increase their CO₂ levels 3 to 4 times over normal atmospheric levels to promote growth

• NASA reports a 6.2% in Earth biomass over 20 years…the Amazon rainforest is increasing

• Eastern U.S. forests are growing the fastest in 225 years as CO₂ levels increased 12% over 22 years

Page 57: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

What Is The Source For All The Claims Of Impending Climate Disasters?

• Computer models are used to try to predict future climate states; none have been able to accurately predict past climate changes nor predict beyond a few days

• Computers reflect the knowledge, prejudices, assumptions, guesses, and desired outcome biases of the modeler

• The IPCC issues only make believe, “what if” scenarios and projections, which the media and politicians falsely portray as predictions

Page 58: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Climate Computers Can Not Predict the Climate

•Claims of climate catastrophes, disease spread , species extinction and the like in 2020, 2050, or 2100 are computer fictions generated by biased, incomplete understanding, and/or faulty assumptions•The absence of a full understanding of all the climatic factors, their interactions, their precise initial measurements, and their non-linear relationships dooms long term climate forecasting

•The complex interaction of low level clouds, high level clouds, ice particles, cosmic ray particles, aerosol and soot particles, and humidity changes with altitude are poorly understood

•The past seven years of global cooling were not predicted by the UN climate models, in much the same way that the most sophisticated financial computers failed to predict the financial collapse of the past several years

Page 59: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

There Is No Universal Theory Of Climate

There Is No Universal Equation To Describe Climate

Therefore There Can Be No Valid Computer Model of Climate

Page 60: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

The United Nations’IPCC Does Not Make Climate

the magnitude and pattern of the response. Furthermore, manygroups have now performed model integrations using similarradiative forcings. This allows ensembles of model results to beconstructed (see Chapter 9, Section 9.3; see also the end ofChapter 7, Section 7.1.3 for an interesting question aboutensemble formation).

In sum, a strategy must recognise what is possible. In climateresearch and modelling, we should recognise that we are dealingwith a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore that thelong-term prediction of future climate states is not possible

Page 61: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

When Does Weather Become Climate?

In 1964, Edward Lorenz, American meteorologist, mathematician, and early computer analyst

published his paper

“Does a Climate Exist?”Lorenz was also the founder of “chaos theory” and considered the mathematical possibility that there is no long term average weather; therefore there is

no stable climate; therefore weather/climate is always changing on some time scale

Interaction Between The Solar Wind And Cosmic Ray Particles And Cloud

Formation Theory (Svensmark)• As the solar wind blows past the Earth, it deflects incoming cosmic ray

particles• These cosmic ray particles are thought to be responsible for the formation

of moisture particles in the atmosphere, which subsequently coalesce to form low level, cooling clouds

• Increased solar wind activity thereby results in fewer cooling clouds = global warming

• Decreased solar wind activity results in more cooling clouds = global cooling

• (

“Anthropogenic Global Warming Theory Is A Lie”

Former NASA employee, Dr. Ferenc Miskolczi, an atmospheric physicist, has a formalized proof

for his claimHis theory and proof demonstrate a self regulating

mechanism which balances atmospheric water vapor and carbon dioxide keeping the earth’s

greenhouse effect in balanceThe chief causes of global warming are changes in

reflected sunlight and solar energy

Page 74: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

More Other Causes• Natural changes in the orbit, tilt, and wobble

of the earth’s axis in relationship to the sun• Natural changes in the solar system geometry

and dynamics; other planets in our solar system have also shown evidence of simultaneous warming

• Changes in land use patterns: farming practices, irrigation practices, urbanization

• Manmade aerosols and soot• Legislated prohibition of brush clearing in

known fire zones, e.g. Australia and California

Page 75: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Al Gore Spotlight• In response to a law suit by a father of an English school

child, a British Judge found in his 2007 ruling that “An Inconvenient Truth” was political propaganda and had erred in 9 of its 12 claims

• Mr. Gore featured the discredited “hockey stick” graph of climatologist M. Mann, attempting to show that the 20th century warming was linked to human industrial activities and unprecedented. The “hockey stick” graph had eliminated the Medieval Warm Period (A.D. 900-1300), when temperatures were as warm or warmer than now, and CO2 levels much lower. The graph was shown to be a statistical artifact by independent researchers.

Mr. Gore’s Financial Links

• He is a investor-partner in the California venture capital firm Kleiner-Perkins, which specializes in energy and environmentally oriented investments

• He is co-founder of the London based, carbon trading firm Generation Investment Management

• To date, Mr. Gore refuses to openly debate the science of his proclaimed climate crisis

Polar Bears; The Numbers• Worldwide, there are now 22,000 to 25,000; 50

years ago there were 8,000 to 10,000• The most significant factor in control of polar

bear populations has been the regulation of hunting permits

• Polar bears have been around for over 100,000 years and have survived higher temperatures than at present

• Mr. Gore’s publicity film falsely implied an epidemic of drowning polar bears; in fact there were four polar bears found dead following an unusually strong Beaufort Sea Storm in 2004

True In 1999; True In 2009• False “Bad News”• Bad news sells papers, raises

campaign donations, and research grants

• Paul Ehrlich prophet of doom ; population bomb; climate doom

• Peak Oil• Acid Rain• Vanishing Farmland Scam• Endless imagined environmental

disasters• Past irrationally viewed as better

than present

Page 85: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

J. Simon’s “Media-Shaped Opinion” Feedback Loop

1. The media carry stories about environmental scares

2. People therefore become frightened3. Polls then show people to be worried4. The worry then is cited as support for policies

to initiate actions about the supposed scares5. These policies raise the level of public concern

further, which the media report again…back to step 1

Page 86: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Energy Sources• Windmills and solar energy sources provide about 1-2% of

our energy needs ,gobble up huge tracts of land and water resources, and disrupt native habitat…one 1,000MW coal plant replacement takes 600 sq. miles of wind turbines, and require backup, inefficiently operated electric power plants– In Spain, windmill “green jobs” cost 9 jobs for every 4

new ones at a cost of $750,000 per green job, but collapsed following the withdrawal of lavish governmental subsidies

• Fossil fuels “the original biofuels” coal, oil, and gas provide about 85% of our energy

• Nuclear power provides about 8-9%• Hydroelectric plants supply about 3%

Page 87: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Taxpayer Money Tree• Follow the money…approximately $79 BILLION

has been spent by the U.S. government funding global warming/“climate change” projects since 1989…based on the predetermined premise that manmade CO2 is a climate change problem requiring immediate solution

• “Everyone” has learned how to make a buck from the “incurable problem” of natural climate change---the invented disaster that keeps on giving university grant money, favored federal subsidies, Wall Street profits, media scare stories, activist funding, and political control

• Here in Virginia, tax write-offs, grants, and legislation mandating “renewables” are in vogue

Page 88: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Solar And Wind Power Receive Huge Governmental Taxpayer

Subsidies On a dollar per megawatt-hour produced basis:

•Solar receives $24.34 •Wind receives $23.37•Nuclear receives $ 1.59 •Hydro receives $ .67 •Coal receives $ .44 •Oil receives $ .25

Data: U.S. Energy Information Administration 2008

Page 89: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Wind And Solar As Alternate Power?• Less than 1% of U.S. electricity is generated from petroleum• Petroleum represents less than 40% of total U.S. energy use• Two thirds of imported oil comes from Canada and Mexico,

not the Middle East• China and other foreign countries have supplied 65% of U.S.

wind installations; 80% of 2 billion of your tax dollars• China is the world manufacturing center for solar power

panels, a technology producing a variety of toxins• China is the source for rare earth metal ores used in electric

car batteries ,electric motors, and wind turbine generators• Britain reported that in winter, wind power failed to deliver

during the cold and snowy conditions…lack of wind

Page 90: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Green Energy ?– Clean Energy?• If it is “green”, is it supported in practice by environmental

groups?– Carbon free nuclear power is opposed by the Sierra club

• France generates 80-85% of its electric power by nuclear plants

• China is adding 100 new nuclear plants over the next 20 years

– Carbon free hydropower, wind power, and desert solar farms are opposed by environmentalists

• Green energy/clean energy is by political mandate, needlessly more expensive energy

• Discouraging domestic oil and coal energy development reduces domestic energy security and results in more importation of foreign oil

• Ethanol from corn has increased food prices, reduced car mileage, and increased pollution

Page 92: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Is The U.S. An Out Of Line Polluter?• In 2008, the U.S. accounted for 30% of the world’s

gross domestic product• In 2008, the U.S. accounted for 19% of global

greenhouse gas emissions• Between 1980 and 2008, the EPA reported double

digit declines in the six major pollutants ( carbon monoxide, ground level ozone, lead, nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter, and sulfur dioxide) even as fossil fuel use increased

• The U.S. manages to produce more goods and simultaneously reduce levels of pollution

Page 93: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Are You Worried About Your Carbon Footprint?

• By one estimate, it takes 1,767,250,000,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide to raise global temperature 1 degree Centigrade.

• If you stopped driving your car for one year, you would save about 5.5 metric tons of carbon dioxide. Divide 5.5 by the above number, and that is your contribution to global warming reduction.

• If the entire state of Virginia were to completely shut down all fossil fuel consumption, it would take only 50 days for that saving to be replaced by global growth.

Waxman-Markey BillKerry-Boxer Clean Energy BillBoth Are Disguised TAX BILLS

•In spite of the attempt to camouflage the fact with changing terminology, both of these bills are governmentally imposed, arbitrary TAX BILLS on energy, dispensing tax payer monies to politically favored industries and lobbying groups•Even if carbon dioxide emissions are impacted by these bills, temperature change by 2050 would be less than one tenth of a degree•The true cost to the consumers of this energy tax has been estimated at $1,500 to $3,500 per family, per year with no measurable benefit to the global climate

Page 96: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

Why Not A Carbon Tax?• A straight forward carbon tax could be implemented by the

government• Wall Street banks, investment banks, and commodity trading

investors do not support a tax because they would be left out of the money loop, being deprived of the huge trading profits that they wish to skim off from a multi-trillion dollar “cap and trade” marketplace…subprime morgtage/Bernard Madoff redux?

• Carbon trading credits (cap and trade) represent a uniquely fictitious commodity having no physical existence; a form of fiat money and ripe for fraud as already demonstrated in Europe

Page 97: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

What Your Federal Government And The Media Suggest You Do

• Andrew Revkin, NY Times environmental writer: “single most substantive thing an American could do is not turning off a light or driving a Prius, it’s having fewer children”

• John Holdren, President Obama’s Federal science advisor: “families contribute to general social deterioration by overproducing children; a planetary regime might be given responsibility for determining optimum population for the world”

• Victoria University (Australia): Brenda and Robert Vale , sustainable living specialists, publish: “Time To Eat The Dog”; calculating that feeding a dog for a year produces more carbon emissions than a SUV; feeding a cat produces the emissions of a VW golf

Page 98: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

In Summary• The current state of climate understanding does not

justify a radical restructuring of the industrialized world

• The current state of impartial scientific evidence does not support claims of impending global climate disasters

• A new era of open and unbiased climate research, divorced from political and agenda driven activists, is needed

• Contact your legislators and demand cost-effective, scientifically based policy

Page 99: Does/Did Our Planet Have A “Fever”?

What Can You Do?• Educate yourself beyond the biased media; it takes

work• Find out what your children and grandchildren are

being taught in school; demand unbiased science, not the politically correct dogma of advocacy groups

• Realize the basic fact of modern life: that control of energy and its cost is control of your and your families’ lives

• Realize that energy companies will pass onto you any of their mandated increased costs of energy production

• Voluntary energy conservation is, and has always been, prudent

In Closing

H.L. Menken’s insight from the early 1900s, is still valid: “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed , and hence

clamorous to be led to safety , by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of

them imaginary
