UPM Plywood Mill in Savonlinna specialises in long and large veneers, which are supplied to the automotive and other industries. Product development is intensive and continuous. 2. MANUFACTURE OF EQUIPMENT FOR THE PULP AND PAPER INDUSTRYThe global expertise of the Andritz group in e.g. manu-facturing pulp fibre washers and sorters is concentrated in the Savonlinna region. The Andritz Savonlinna Works manufacturing facility has produced DD washers for the world’s largest pulp factories in South America and Asia and will deliver the main equipment to a new bio-product factory owned by MetsäFibre in Äänekoski.This top expertise in manufacturing equipment for the pulp and paper industry also gives work to Saimatec Engineering, a paper roll wrapping system manufacturer, and other sub-contractor plants in the region.In the pulp-processing sector, Savonlinna also features MAMK Fiberlaboratory, which carries out research into the optimisation of refining processes and new equipment solutions in conjunction with Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences and Lappeenranta University of Technology. Wetend Technologies Ltd of Savonlinna represents one of the most significant new innovations in the paper and board industry. Aquaflow Oy, part of the global Veolia

Water Technologies, designs and delivers water and sludge treatment systems for the global forest industry and other industries and municipalities in the Baltic Sea region.
