Dollar General is a U.S. chain of variety stores headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Dollar General was founded in 1939 by Cal Turner in Scottsville, Kentucky as J.L. Turner & Son, Inc. In 1968 the business changed its name to Dollar General Corporation. In 2007 the company was acquired by the private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), which took the company public in 2009.

Dollar General offers both name-brand and generic merchandise — including off-brand goods and closeouts of name-brand items — in the same store, often on the same shelf. Although it has the word “dollar” in the name, Dollar General is not a dollar store. Many of its offerings are priced at more than one dollar. However, goods are usually sold at set price points of penny items and up to the range of 50 to 60 dollars.

Dollar General has thrived during the economic recovery of the last several years and their stock has increased 21.48% in the past 12 months. They have reported a twenty-fourth consecutive year of same-store sales growth in 2015 and overall sales grew by 7.9%.

Thomas is a city in Custer County, Oklahoma and the population was 1,181 at the 2010 census. Originally a marketing community and shipping point for the surrounding agricultural area, Thomas has evolved into a bedroom community. According to the Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture, over 91 percent of the employed residents commute to work in other communities.

Weatherford, Oklahoma is a growing micropolitan area located 70 miles west of Oklahoma City. Weatherford is home to Southwestern Oklahoma State University, the employer of over 790 people, and other companies like Walmart, Devon Energy, and B.O.P. Ram. The Census Bureau named Weatherford one of the top 10 fastest growing micropolitan cities in America.

The 40,000-square-foot Stafford Air & Space Museum is home to spacecraft, an actual Titan II missile, WWII V-2 rocket, MiG 21, Saturn V F-1 engine as well as flown space suits, flight equipment, space shuttle engines, and a moon rock. Weatherford is the hometown of astronaut Thomas P. Stafford, veteran of four space flights and commander of the Gemini 9, Apollo 10 missions

and the Apollo-Soyuz project. The museum is located at the Thomas P. Stafford Airport. Weatherford also has another museum called The Heartland Museum.

Weatherford is the home of a Kodak manufacturing plant as well as a hub for multiple oil and natural gas industry leaders.

As the home of Southwestern Oklahoma State University, they stay busy with events like concerts, sports tournaments, and celebrity speakers.
