Birzeit University (BZU) is a Palestinian Arab institution governed by an autonomous board of trustees composed of Palestinian educators and professionals. It is located about 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) north of Jerusalem. Birzeit's mountains are covered with olive trees and the campus has been landscaped to take advantage of the lovely views from its high hills.

students in 1972 to around 10,000 in 2012 enrolled in 9 faculties

Despite this rapid growth, the Student/ Teacher ratio has been maintained at 20-1, an important indicator of academic standards.

The Palestine and Arabic Studies (PAS) Program is an academic program that offers international students the opportunity to combine the study of the Arabic language with social science courses about Palestine and the Arab World.

The PAS Program offers 4 levels of Modern Standard Arabic and 3 levels of Colloquial Arabic (beginner to advanced) and social and political science courses that are taught in English.
