School—5491 4522 Unity College – 5490 5777 We recognise the traditional owners of this land the Gubbi Gubbi peoples. Why do you go to Church? One thing that I have found helpful in my spiritual journey over the years have been to take myself back to the basics of our faith every now and again. This is because there could be the tendency to get too used to what we do as a community of faith, that we can sometimes miss the richness or essence of what we do. This could be through going back to my notes from seminary days, or just something as easy as picking up one of the documents of the church like the Catechism or Vatican II. I encourage people to do this, as you have no idea what God will be revealing to you. Ongoing formation and reminder is very important. We can never know it all. So, in the last week, I was drawn to Vatican II’s Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy. Article 7 of that document caught my eye as a great reminder to all of us about what we do at Liturgies and why we gather. It says; …Christ is always present in His Church, especially in her liturgical celebrations. He is present in the sacrifice of the Mass, not only in the person of His minister, “the same now offering through the ministry of priests, who formerly offered himself on the cross,” but especially under the Eucharistic species. By His power He is present in the sacraments, so that when a man baptizes it is really Christ Himself who baptizes. He is present in His Word, since it is He Himself who speaks when the holy scriptures are read in the church. He is present lastly, when the Church prays and sings, for He promised: “where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matt. 18:20) …. It is important that we remind ourselves that when we gather as a community of faith for liturgical celebrations, that we come to encounter Christ in a unique way that doesn’t necessarily exist anywhere else. This makes liturgical celebrations special more than any other action of the Church. Therefore, we should always yearn to come and encounter Christ who is always present waiting for us. This should go a long way to give us reasons why we make that extra effort to gather as a community. On the other hand, this reminder can serve as a bit of a challenge to all of us to ask ourselves how much we appreciate and respect this wonderful gift that God has given us through His son. Do I appreciate the presence of Christ through the sacraments of the Church? Do I appreciate the awesomeness of the Eucharistic species which become the real body and blood of Christ? Do I listen to the Word of God with an open mind knowing that it is God Himself talking to me? Do I see and appreciate God in everyone gathered? How about in the person of the priest who is ordained to act in the person of Christ? My dear friends, Lent is a time to honestly deal with these questions, so that we can draw closer to God who is ever present among us. Blessings, Fr Chukwudi Available this weekend is the Timetable for all Holy Week and Triduum ceremonies throughout the Parish as well as Reconciliation times. The Triduum ceremonies while being a remembrance of the life giving events in the life of Jesus are also opportunities for communities to unite and experience communion in a visible and practical way. Large parishes with multiple centres, such as our neighbour Maroochydore, have one Holy Thursday celebration. Since Caloundra parish is geographically further spread we offer two celebrations. This year Mass of the Lord’s Supper and washing of feet will take place in Caloundra and Landsborough. For the rural communities Holy Thursday Mass will be held alternate years at the communities of Landsborough and Maleny. Beerwah hosts the Easter Vigil each year. My thanks to all involved in these most significant Liturgies and I am sure you will work together to provide prayerful celebrations for the people of our parish and our many visitors. God Bless, Fr Kevin
