Run by stéphane arriubergé and massimiliano iorio, Domestic introduces collections of objects designed by designers, graphic artists and artists gathered around innovating and new concepts and themes. All these objects have the particularity of offering an area where the end user can intervene and be free in the creation process. Already in 2003, Domestic launched its first Wall Drawings collection and with it, invented what is now called «wall stickers»,a new standard in the world of design and interior decoration.A genuine alternative to wallpaper, Wall Drawings literally hands over to the end user who, invited to convert his interior into an area for expression, becomes the originator of his own decor. More recently, Domestic launched the Narcisse collection which removes the mirror from its setting and its customary codes. The Surface 01 and Surface 02 collections which suggest investing the surface of an archetypal object with graphics, the 1. 2. 3. Furniture collection which hands over to the user to give body to a functional object from a kit thought outby a designer. The 2009 /10 catalogue introduces a number of new models of wall stickers in hitherto unseen formats with the Wall Drawings 25 x 25 and Adopt Me collections, enlarges the Narcisse collection with new mirrors and suggests rehabilitating and reintroducing scenic wallpaper with The New Domestic Landscapes collection, a type unfairly abandoned since the 1980’s. In one year, about 20 designers have joined Domestic. . .

Animé par stéphane arriubergé et massimiliano iorio, Domestic initie des collections d’objets dessinés par des designers, des graphistes et des artistes rassemblés autour de concepts et de thématiques innovants et inédits. Tous ces objets ont la particularité d’offrir un espace d’intervention et de liberté dans le processus de création à leur utilisateur final. Déjà en 2003 Domestic lançait la première collection Wall Drawings et inventait avec elle ce que l’on appelle désormais les « wall stickers », un nouveau standard dans l’univers du design et de l’aménagement intérieur. Véritable alternative au papier peint, Wall Drawings passe littéralement la main à l’utilisateur final qui, invité à convertir son intérieur en espace d’expression, devient l’auteur de son propre décor. Plus récemment Domestic lançait la collection Narcisse qui débarrasse le miroir de son cadre et de ses codes habituels, les collections Surface 01 et Surface 02 qui proposent d’investir la surface d’un objet archétypal par une intervention graphique, la collection 1. 2. 3. Furniture qui passe la main à l’utilisateur pour donner corps à un objet fonctionnel à partir d’un kit pensé par un designer. Le catalogue 2009 /10 introduit de nombreux nouveaux modèles de wall stickers dans des formats inédits avec les collections Wall Drawings 25 x 25 et Adopt Me, élargit la collection Narcisse avec de nouveaux miroirs et propose de réhabiliter et de réintroduire le papier peint panoramique avec la collection The New Domestic Landscapes, genre injustement délaissé depuis les années 80. En un an une vingtaine de designers ont rejoint Domestic.. . .

Wall Drawings est une collection de wall stickers dessinée par des graphistes, des designers et des artistes issus de territoires créatifs et d’horizons divers. Véritable alternative au papier peint,la collection Wall Drawings passe littéralementla main à l’utilisateur qui, invité à convertir son intérieur en espace d’expression devient l’auteur de son propre décor. Grâce à Wall Drawings, l’« espace mur » devient le terrain d’un jeude composition et de narration à investiret à inventer. Libre des contraintes inhérentes au papier peint, la collection Wall Drawings, au-delà de l’intérêt pratique qu’elle représente (vous n’avez plus besoin de table à tapisser ni de colle), permet de repenser la place et le rôle du décor et de l’ornement dans nos intérieurs. Là où toute une partie de la collection puise sa force visuelle dans les aplats francs de couleur du dessin vectoriel et où seul le trait de découpe donne naissance au dessin, un autre pan de la collection ouvre le spectre graphique aux dégradés, aux superpositions colorées, aux textures élaborées, aux empreintes manuelles donnant ainsi naissance à une esthétiqueplus « low tech ». Wall Drawings is a collection of wall stickers designed by graphic artists, designers and artists coming from creative territories and a wide variety of backgrounds. A genuine alternative to wallpaper, the Wall Drawings collection literally hands over to the user, who is invited to convert his interior into an area for expression, and becomes the originator of his own decor. Thanks to Wall Drawings, the “wall space” becomes the place for a game of composition and narration to invest and to invent. Free of the constraints inherent in wallpaper, the Wall Drawings collection, apart from the practical interest it represents (you no longer need a table for pasting nor paste), enables more thought to be given to the place and the role of the decor and decoration in our interiors. Here, where all or part of the collection takes its visual strength from the flat tints without the colour of the vector graphics and where only the score line gives birth to the drawing, another part of the collection opens the graphic spectrum to the graduated colours, to superimposed colours, to elaborated textures, to manual imprints thereby giving birth to more “low tech” aesthetics. Sa toute première apparition datant de la fin du 18e siècle, son essor de la restauration et ses derniers souffles des années 1970/80. Ringardisé à la fin des années 80 par une exagération de son intérêt initial, ouvrir une fenêtre factice sur un extérieur réaliste ou fantasmé, le genre a disparu avec des modèles photographiques caricaturant des natures « Quatre Saisons » (sommets enneigés, couchersde soleil flamboyants…) The New Domestic Landscapes propose de réhabiliter et de réintroduire les décors monumentaux des papiers peints panoramiques en faisant table rase des pistes photographiques explorées par le passé et en proposant à une dizaine d’artistes, designers ou graphistes de créer des décors contemporains qui peuvent justifier une réhabilitation de ce type de décor aujourd’hui. Imaginés et dessinés par matali crasset, Ich & Kar, Dylan Martorell, Mark Verhaagen, Tado, Studio Job, Timorous Beasties, Jeremyville, Elisabeth Arkhipoff, Ryan Cox, Pandarosa, +41, Coco Tassel, Geneviève Gauckler, Kustaa Saksi, Rolito, Anamorphée, Leslie David, Florence Manlik, Delaware, Catalina Estrada, Büro Destruct les décors de cette première collection ménagent de grandes ouvertures sur des paysages parfois oniriques ou introspectifs, urbains ou pastoraux, nostalgiques ou prospectifs et la plupart du temps sur une nature ou un monde rêvés et habités de créatures fantasmées. Imprimés sur un papier intissé de grande qualité chaque décor mesure 4 mètres de large par 3 mètres de haut et se présente sous forme de 8 lés à assembler. One strip est une collection de lés de papiers peints dessinés par des graphistes et des designers. Pensés pour être utilisés et installés verticalement ou horizontalement ils se déploient tous dansla largeur d’un unique lé de 50cm. A mi chemin entre l’illustration et le trompe l’œil certains modèles cherchent dans ce format très vertical une place pour déployer des propositions ornementales ou narratives (Tado, Coco Tassel, Ryan Cox, Pandarosa, Mark Verhaagen), d’autres à l’inverse ouvrent de nouvelles pistes en cherchant de nouveaux usages pour renouveler le papier peint. Ainsi Ich&Kar propose un apprentissage ou une grande révision générale des tables de multplications et du Bescherelle, Ana Mir et Emili Padros nous arrachent au travail pour nous rappeler à nos besoin physiques d’étirements et d’exercice… Certaines autres propositions enfin mettent en avant les qualités et subtilités du dessin de graphistes et d’artistes comme Florence Manlik, Anamorphée ou Leslie David......

One strip is a collection of wallpaper strips drawn by graphic artists and designers. Conceived to be used and installed vertically or horizontally, they are all deployed in the width of a single strip of 50cm. Midway between illustration and trompe l’oeil, some models look for a space in this very vertical format to deploy ornamental or narrative proposals (Tado, Coco Tassel, Ryan Cox, Pandarosa, Mark Verhaagen), while others take the reverse track of opening new paths, looking for new uses to renew wallpaper. Thus Ich&Kar propose a learning or overhaul of the multplication and Bescherelle tables, Ana Mir and Emili Padros tear us away from work to recall us to our physical needs of stretching and exercising … Other proposals bring out the qualitiesand subtleties of the drawings of graphic artistsand artists like Florence Manlik, Anamorphée and Leslie David........

La collection Surface initiée avec un vase décoré s’étend et investit désormais la surface de deux assiettes inséparables en porcelaine : Surface 02. Archétypales, la qualité et l’intérêt de ces assiettes réside dans l’intervention graphique d’une dizaine de designers et de graphistes. Pour cette seconde collection Surface, Domestic choisit à nouveau de produire une assiette au design préexistant et de considérer que le seul acte graphique pratiqué en surface est en soi et naturellement un acte de design. The Surface collection initiated with a decorated vase extends and now includes the surface of two inseparable porcelain plates: Surface 02. For the second Surface collection Domestic have again chosen to produce a plate of pre-existing design and to solely consider the graphics applied to the surface, which in itself is naturally an act of design.
