New Name – Same Goal Only 30 years after the small association ”Jugend Dritte Welt“ was founded, it has turned into an international, non-governmental organisation that has been following the same goal then and now: With comprehensive school education and vocational training, we particularly support disadvantaged children and young people, helping them to live independent lives. Our new name Don Bosco Mondo underlines our strong partnership with the Salesians of Don Bosco. Since our foundation in 1980, the understanding for development cooperation has considerably grown – our new name is to point this development out: Don Bosco Mondo expresses the worldwide partnership approach of our project activities. The Italian word ”Mondo“ means ”world“ and emphasizes our dedication for this One World as well as our global responsibility that connects us in Germany with people across the world. ”Children are like diamonds.“ Don Bosco Our Vision: Free from existential fears, children and adolescents all over the world grow up in a familial and social environ- ment that gives them a feeling of security and freedom. Encouraged to think and act independently, they develop their skills and have access to education and qualifica- tions. They make use of their rights and learn to organise their lives on their own as well as to confidently assume responsibility also for others. Fighting Poverty with Education Don Bosco Mondo supports disadvantaged children and adolescents in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe, who suffer hardships. They are street children, orphans, and former child soldiers. Poverty forces them to work or even prostitute themselves. Help that reaches the kids – thanks to a strong network If you support our work at Don Bosco Mondo, you can be assured that your help will reach the young people: our reliable partner is the community of Salesians of Don Bosco that has been concentrating on supporting youth in need for more than 150 years and which has established a worldwide network. With nearly 7,000 centres located in 130 different countries, the Salesians provide approximately 15 million young people with knowledge, skills, and orientation. The ”Don Bosco Pedagogy“ stands for loving attention and professional support. In addition to helping kids to trust in their own skills, they learn values like creativity, team spirit, tolerance, and respect. Every donor can thus be assured that his or her donation will be multiplied. How does that work? Many associations, foundations, companies, and – of course – the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) appreciate the high professional level and commitment of our partners so that they are happy to support us. However, they expect Don Bosco Mondo to get financially involved accordingly to demon- strate that we are absolutely convinced of our projects. If we receive €100 of non-targeted aid, we are usually able to forward approximately € 300 into projects that help children and young people. We combine forces and the willingness to help on behalf of thousands of people – making the most of it. Free and non-targeted donations provide the greatest help as they enable us to initiate new projects that are particularly urgent.

New Name –Same GoalOnly 30 years after the small association ”Jugend Dritte Welt“ was founded, it has turned into an international, non-governmental organisation that has been following the same goal then and now:

With comprehensive school education and vocational training, we particularly support disadvantaged children and young people, helping them to live independent lives.

”Children are like diamonds.“

Our Vision:Free from existential fears, children and adolescents all over the world grow up in a familial and social environ-ment that gives them a feeling of security and freedom. Encouraged to think and act independently, they develop their skills and have access to education and qualifica-tions. They make use of their rights and learn to organise their lives on their own as well as to confidently assume responsibility also for others.

Aid in Action – Helping the YouthDon Bosco Mondo focuses on education and educational training for young people that would not attend school or learn a profession otherwise. Our comprehensive ap-proach takes into account their human, emotional, and intellectual needs; and is laid out as long-term support – from primary school age until they enter a professional employment.

In Don Bosco vocational training centres, young people can learn a trade, a profession, and skills they will need to obtain a secure income. Don Bosco Mondo supports graduates in finding a job and provides microcredits to help them open up their own small businesses.

In deprived areas, special bridging or evening schools facilitate the reintegration of school dropouts and former child labourers into school.

Supporting people in need, developing their environment

In case of emergencies, Don Bosco Mondo gives aid: Salesians are often among the first aid workers on site. Thanks to their sound knowledge of the regions, they can provide fast and efficient help. Furthermore, Don Bosco Mondo supports social and ecological projects that enhance the living conditions of young people on a long-term basis.

Winning people over, being an advocateDon Bosco Mondo provides developmental education and inspires people to support this commitment – either in a non-financial way, by means of personal involve-ment, or in form of donations. Furthermore, Don Bosco Mondo publicly advocates children‘s and young people‘s interests and rights.

Hand in Hand for YoungstersGive Kids a Future!Don Bosco Mondo‘s efforts are only made possible thanks to the numerous people and institutions sup-porting these endeavours. Apart from tens of thousands of donors – some of them have been giving their support for many years – these include far beyond 100 associ-ations, foundations, enterprises, schools, parishes, and public sources like the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

We cordially invite you to give young peoples‘ futures a new perspective:

Tracing the Footsteps of Don Bosco.Patron of the Youth.Johannes Bosco was born 16 August 1815 in Northern Italy. In 1841, he was ordained as priest and took up his engagement for poor and disad-vantaged adolescents in Turin.

Johannes Bosco is regarded as pioneer of modern edu-cation. He opposed the repressive educational methods of his time with teaching methods based on love rather than punishment, and with the conveyance of Christian values.

He created facilities to provide disoriented teenagers with education and professional training, but also to give them a place to play and experience a sense of community. Here they received religious impetus and were given a feeling of security.

Today, more than 16.000 Salesians all over the world and over 1 million like-minded people advocate for the concerns of children and adolescents in the name of Don Bosco.

Don Bosco in Bonn.

Two of the organisations that support the global insti-tutions of the Salesians of Don Bosco are located in Bonn: Don Bosco Mondo and Don Bosco Mission.

Don Bosco Mission is one of 34 Salesian branches and represents the international interests of the religious order in Germany. The Don Bosco Mission‘s development work focuses especially on at-risk teenagers and street children. This institution closely cooperates with Catholic aid agencies.

Don Bosco Mondo – on the other hand – is a legally independent, non-governmental organisation that concentrates on educational work, advocating for the rights of children and adolescents across the world.

Don Bosco Mondo and Don Bosco Mission work closely together, complementing each other in their national and international efforts.
