It will be used for intervention services and professional development of staff to improve classroom instruction. POWERLIFTERS EXCEL AT NATIONALS Congratulations to our Powerlifters that placed at the National Meet last week and over the weekend! Sam Purcell finished in 2nd place, Nick Purcell finished in 7th place, Clay Riehl finished in 8th place, Ashton Miller finished in 9th place and Trace Lein and Case Riehl both finished in 11th place. SCHOOL ILLNESS SURVEILLANCE REPORT

Did you know that our schools are required to complete a daily School Illness Surveillance Report to help Winnebago County track illness trends in our schools? This is one reason why Mrs. Thelen has to ask the nature of the absence if a reason is not given. Public health reporting is a valuable tool to ensure that health information is communicated to the public, to encourage healthy behavior practices and to help future public health initiatives. Winnebago County has recently created a parent version of the report. If you are interested in receiving these updates, here is a link to sign up: School Illness Surveillance Report for Parents

Sophomore Tip Hogerty has been selected as a candidate for

the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Students of the Year"

Campaign.

Tip is competing against

students from Neenah High

School, Appleton North High

School, and Fox Valley Lutheran

to raise awareness and money

for the Leukemia & Lymphoma

a special event this Sunday (see

sidebar). Let's show our Zephyr pride and help Tip win "Student of the Year"! You can make a donation by using this link: at: https://events.lls.org/wi/applesoy19/thogerty HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT! We have a fantastic opportunity for your family to benefit from a great cultural experience by hosting an exchange student! We are currently seeking host families for two students—a 12th grade girl for first semester only, and a boy returning to SMC who is in the 11th grade. There is a $575 monthly stipend and a $1,000 tuition credit (pro-rated semester hosts) associated with hosting an International student. What a great way to make a St. Mary Catholic Schools education for your family more affordable. Host families do not need to be from SMCS so please pass on this opportunity to anyone you think may be willing to open their home. If you would like more information or to discuss this opportunity in greater detail, please feel free to contact Sue Thelen, International Program Director.

GRADUATION—SEEKING BABY AND CLASS PHOTOS! Graduation is just around the corner! We are looking for baby photos for a special presentation after the Baccalaureate Mass on Wednesday, May 22. We are also looking for group photos of students during their K-12 journey. Please submit your photos in .jpg format via email to Ashley Trebatoski by Tuesday, May 1. The Prom Committee is planning an elegant and fun-filled “Enchanted Garden” and request your help to make the night extra special for all who attend. Below is a list of where help is most needed. Any sponsorship is greatly appreciated. We know that our events are not as successful without the generous support from our families. Thank you in advance for any financial sponsorship you may be willing to give.

Keychains for each attendee

Money to purchase gift cards as prizes at post-prom

Decorations for the event If you are able to help, please make your donation by April 15th. Thank you so much for your help in creating this memorable event for all! If you have any further questions please contact Kristin Billings or Clare Stefanich at 920-722-7796 or [email protected] or [email protected]. Academic Summer School Opportunities SMC has joined in a partnership with a Catholic Virtual Academy and students can now enroll in a self-paced health OR personal finance class over the summer. The modular design of both courses provides flexibility for students to complete the coursework over the summer and at their own pace. At the beginning of each module is a section dedicated to the relevant teachings of the Catholic Church. This provides students a lens or mental framework for learning. The cost of the course is $40 per student through May 1, 2019. Fee increases to $50 per student from May 2- May 17, 2019. Registration closes at midnight on May 17th. If you have any questions, please let me know. For the families that have already signed up, please click on the following link to complete the registration and payment: Summer Online Course Payment If you have not signed up for the online summer school offerings, there is still time to sign up. Please click on the following link to learn more about the offerings: Summer Online Course Registration

NEW!! Blended Education Opportunities for the 2019-2020 School Year SMCHS will also offer blended education to students starting in the 2019-2020 school year. Beyond challenging course content, a blended education experience fosters important life skills, and provides opportunities to learn with students from Catholic schools across North America. Blended education courses will help students develop time management skills, discipline, self-advocacy, and more. Enrolling in blended education courses helps students mature into independent learners that will serve them well in college and beyond. Students enrolling in blended education can work on the course content during their scheduled study hall or at home. Please click on this link to view our blended education course catalog: Blended Ed Course Catalog
