• 5th Maintenance of the 6 hectares Adopt-A-Forest Program planted in October 2017

The 5th maintenance program of the Adopt-a-Forest Program planted in October 2017 in partnership with Happy Enterprises, Kimson Commercials & Resources Inc., Rudy Tiu, Ivory Charities Foundation Inc., and Butuan-Agusan Farmers Multi-purpose Cooperative & Masulbad Irrigators Association was completely validated on August 30, 2018 with a survival rate of 91.7 %. It covered approximately six (6) hectares of area within Taguibo River Watershed Forest Reserve (TRWFR), and planted with 3,600 seedlings of various grafted fruits and forest trees such as Rambutan, Lanzones, Narra and Tugas or equivalent to 600 seedlings per hectare.

The maintenance activity was part of the program and would be implemented every two (2) months from planting for the year one to ensure high survival rate of planted seedlings. The maintenance activity included clear brushing, strip brushing and round weeding.

Average height of the planted seedlings ranged from 0.5 – 0.7 meter, and average diameter was at 0.4 – 0.6 cm. At the time of validation/inspection, the survival rate of the planted seedlings was 91.7%.Table 1.1 shows the detailed information of the 6 has. CONCLUSION

Based on the latest maintenance and validation activities conducted, it can be noticed that the survival rate of each planting site is slightly decreased. The decreased of survival rate is attributed to the long drought experienced in the TRWFR, particularly during the 3rd quarter of 2018. However, the survival rate of the planted seedlings is still more than 85% which is the minimum requirement set by BCWD for the Adopt-A-Forest Program. Replanting is scheduled on the 4th quarter of 2018 to replace the mortality and in order to successfully achieve higher survival rate.
