Corporation (GIDC) have developed around 257 mega industrial estates such as the ones at Jhagadia, Vagra, Savli, Dahej, Anklaseshwar etc.

• With the largest petro- chemical complex in the country, Gujarat is a major producer of inorganic chemicals such as soda-ash and caustic soda as well as chemical fertilizers.

• The dairy industry with a milk procurement of 35 lakh liters is the largest in the country.

SURAT- A SURAT- A DIAMONDDIAMOND CITY CITY• Out of the 12 polished

diamonds in the world, 11 are processed in India of which about 90 per cent are cut and polished in nearly 10,000 units in the diamond city alone.

• About Rs 55,000 crore of annual export turnover is made alone by the diamond industry of Surat in 2007.

• The diamond industry of Gujarat these days is facing a global crisis. The sky rocketing prices of the raw diamonds and the recent recession in American economy have forced thousand of workers to shift to other money generating business. This slowdown in the global market has made more than 4000 big and small diamond factories to struggle to survive in the market.

is used for cultivation in central Gujarat. Kaira, Baroda, Broach and Surat districts are the main contributors to the agricultural production of the state.

• The state produces a large variety of crops like Groundnut (highest production in the country), cotton, Tobacco (second highest production in the country)

• Gujarat is the safest state as the Crime rate of it is 8.2 which is the least in India even after considering 2002 communal riots, stated by India Today 2005 report.
