Provably superior performancein shaped chargesWhatever your shaped charge requirements, DYNAenergetics has the right product to

meet your needs. Each and every charge satisfies the highest quality standards to ensure

the best possible perforation performance. DYNAenergetics manufactures deep-penetrat-

ing (DP), good hole (GH), big hole (BH), exposed through tubing and reactive liner (DPEX)

shaped charges in one of the world’s most modern automated plants where product

quality is monitored by a team of specialist engineers. For further information see our

SUPERIOR IN HOLE SIZEAND FLOW PERFORMANCE

Since the late 1990s DYNAenergetics has been researching into reactive liners for shaped charges. The aim was

to develop a new DPEX shaped charge reactive liner technology that would improve channel cleanup and enhance

productivity. Now independent flow tests have proved that the DYNAenergetics reactive liner shaped charge deliv-

ers hole size and flow performance that are superior to the other tested charges in various borehole conditions.

OBJECTIVE ASSESSMENTA recent SPE paper (SPE 125752) published the results of flow tests conducted with reactive liner shaped charges.

The tests were carried out under controlled conditions in an API RP 19B Section 4 Perforation Flow Laboratory. Three

commercially available 3 3/8" reactive liner shaped charges were tested and compared to a flow-optimized 3 3/8"

25g HMX shaped charge using a non-reactive liner. One of the reactive liner shaped charges was the DYNAenergetics

26g RDX DPEX, the other two were third-party 25g HMX shaped charges. The tests were conducted in Berea Sand-

stone targets with mineral-oil flow to simulate a typical oil-bearing formation. The compressive strength of the rock

was 8,600 psi, the pore pressure 3,600 psi and the average permeability 453 mD. Balanced, 1,000 psi-underbalanced

and 1,000 psi-overbalanced conditions were simulated. The test for each borehole condition was repeated three times

for each charge to ensure statistically valid results.

Since the publication of this SPE paper, further flow tests have been conducted in low permeable Carbon Tan Sand-

stone targets with nitrogen flow to simulate a typical gas-bearing formation (Results published in paper OTC 20893).

The charges and borehole conditions used were identical to those above. The compressive strength was 7,200 psi,

the pore pressure 3,600 psi and the average permeability 9.2 mD.

IMPRESSIVE RESULTSOil-bearing Berea Sandstone: The perforating data revealed that the DYNAenergetics DPEX charge came out best

with an average open perforating channel depth of 98%. The results also showed that the productivity ratio of the

DPEX reactive liner shaped charge outperformed both competing reactive liner shaped charges and the flow-optimized

DP charge in overbalanced conditions. The fact that flow-optimized shaped charges have been shown to increase

productivity by more than 10% over benchmark conventional shaped charges demonstrates what productivity gains

are possible through use of the DYNAenergetics DPEX shaped charge.

Gas-bearing Carbon Tan Sandstone: In overbalanced conditions the DYNAenergetics DPEX charge delivered a

superior hole size and open perforating channel and was the only charge where the productivity ratio indicated

a flowing condition. CT scans of the cores showed that it was also the only charge that displayed a continuous

perforating channel without segmentation. The proven superiority of the DPEX charge in overbalanced conditions

makes it the ideal solution for such applications.

CLEAR BENEFITSThese independent flow tests confirm the superiority of the DYNAenergetics DPEX reactive liner shaped charge

technology. The benefits are clear:

Increased productivity in overbalanced conditions

Increase in perforating channel diameter over conventional shaped charges

Effective crushed zone cleanup during perforation, even in overbalancedborehole conditions

No slugs to plug the perforating channel

Although DYNAenergetics engineered this DPEX liner technology for a 26g shaped charge for use in 4" and 4 1 /2"

guns, it is now available for all other gun sizes and exposed strip guns.
