Your family fishes for a living and your home is a basic hut made of wood slats. You own two outfits that you share with your sister. You’re not sure where the clothes came from, but you can never remember seeing them without stains and the colors are faded. Now imagine that some kind people come to visit your island one day. You cannot understand much of what they say, but they are wearing smiles on their faces and they come bearing gifts. • Provides opportunities and connections for people of ALL ages a way to become involved with a “hands on” mission work in their own home or sewing ministry at their home congregation.

• Provides new clothing for needy children around the world.

• Rekindles the “dying art” of sewing, crocheting, and knitting, giving opportunity for to teach younger people.

• Provides blessings for both the giver and the receiver! A finished dress for a young girl or little pair of shorts for a little boy provides as much joy for the person making it as the child that receives it!

• Affords an annual opportunity for different congregations to come and fellowship, learn more about HHI and have a tour of the facility.

DORCAS MINISTRY: SEWING FOR JESUS

Healing Hands has encountered some amazing people from all over the country who have a heart and talent for sewing and yarn work. Some are great-grandmothers who want to share their talents with the next generation and others are young parents who want to create special memories with their children.

No matter their age or skill level, these people have displayed the heart of Dorcas who was always doing good and helping the poor. Whether it’s a simple sundress for an orphan girl in Honduras or a practical cloth diaper for a grateful mother in Haiti, the created gifts are priceless and beautiful.

We invite you to join them. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is, there is a part for you. Some people cut out fabric, shop for supplies and iron the finished products. Others create new patterns and teach novices the talents that they have honed over a lifetime.

If you already have a sewing ministry at your church, we encourage you to get involved and share this ministry with your group. If not, why not start one?
