ABOUT KNNERN
The town Knnern is located in Saxony-Anhalt inthe area of Halle/Leipzig and so in the southernpart of the administrative district of Salzlandkreis
Knnern is located in the south part of ruraldestrict Bernburg, in Saxony-Anhalt with theprovincial capital Magdeburg.
Just in the middle of Saxony-Anhalt, on the eastern border ofthe Harz, on the river Saale, lies the old, peaceful and smalltown of Knnern with it 30 districts.
Although located in the flatland, the town shows profile. Theplateau as an back-end of the Halle-Hettstedter-mountain
brigde in the south and west of the town, lies 130 metres above sea level. In the city area the terrain decreases in northerndirection, so the northern outskirts lies by only 63 metres above sea level. The Saale level again lies 20 metres downhill.The Saale passes the western outskirt of the town. This part of the river belongs to the planned nature park "Lower SaaleValley".
In 1994 the town of Knnern with the areas Nelben, Trebnitz, Golbitz, Garsena, Zickeritz, Zellewitz, Brucke, Lebendorf,Trebitz and Bebitz founded the town Knnern. Headquarters of the town is the town Knnern. On the 01.01.2003 after ahearing of the citizens in 2002, the municipalities of the administrative district united to the town Knnern. Today 9200inhabitants live on an area of 125 km. Mayor of Knnern is Mr. Rainer Sempert.
Knnern has an excellent infrastructure. The L 50 and the L 85, two federal roads, as well as 3 country roads are crossingthe town. The highway A 14 with junction Knnern from Halle to Magdeburg had already opened for traffic. Because ofthe planned settlement of the new BMW factory near Leipzig the A 38 with direction Gttingen (junction to the A 14approx. 15 km south of Knnern) will be continue building with prior-ranking. Some sections are already completed.
The existing railway infrastructure on the main track Halle - Hannover has been improved for fast trains and is currentlyfrequented by them (Harzexpress) and other trains. The railway station Knnern is as local public transport junction astoping-place for trains and also used as a transfer station. The branch railroad with direction Bernburg-Calbe, which isserved by the local public transport every 2 hours.
