Doriane van Overeem is a Belgian fashion designer, graduated from La Cambre Mode(s) in Brussels,
Belgium. Her taste for garments’ details, fabrics and finishes, comes from her mom that is always searching
for vintage pieces.
Through her experiences with Bernhard Willhelm, Manish Arora, Meadham Kirchhoff and Louise Gray, she has
developed a true know-how, a unique vision and a great sensitivity for textures, colours and prints. Her final
collection for La Cambre Mode(s) resumed well her universe and was greatly noticed in the press, in particular
with Ciara wearing one of her creations during Paris Fashion Week and then with exhibition of the collection
at the Galeries Lafayette in Paris.
It was an evidence to her to create her own label, focused on a nonconformist vision of women and on the
Made in Belgium.
To Doriane van Overeem it’s not enough only making clothes, she speaks out about crucial issues of
feminity through « motto » garments and titles of her collections which offers a nonconformist vision of women.
Her first collection AW14 «Fatherfuckers’ Queen» is an invitation to ask yourself why the insult does not exist
for the other gender ? SS15 « The Way To Say No » points the trivialization of rape culture and street harass-
ment and reminds everyone owns the right to disagree with inappropriate behaviours and say it.
The other focus is to keep all pieces Made in Belgium. In a world of over consumption, it is also important to
fight and promote local know-how and ethical ways of manufacturing. The product is the right balance between
easy to wear cuts with luxury finishes and a great taste in colors. We can describe it as fun casual chic for daily
life and evenings.
Each collection presents one or several collaborations with artists from others disciplines. Per example, in
SS15 the embroidered jellyfish was based on drawings from a friend tattoo artist. In AW15 we used the vibrant
and abstract paintings of Nicolas Jonval to create exclusives overall prints.

The world of Doriane van Overeem is full of fairy tales, mysterious creatures and beautiful flowers. This is
why AW15 is inspired by witches, where the title comes from « Witches Not Bitches » which empowers woman
and invites them to believe in their own natural strength.
Several symbols of magic are represented, as the raven from a painting of Nicolas Jonval, symbol of darkness
and witches’ companion. Also the pentagram, applied on sweaters and jackets. The collection is a mix of colors
and textures, with for this season, a special work on faux fur both in colors and in black as the beautiful faux
astrakhan. And always floral prints which are the common thread between each season. The collection com-
pletes 10 looks for 23 pieces.

USA vs. Belgium: Doriane Van Overeem
by ALICE NEWELL-HANSON
In July of this year, Belgium crowned a new queen, Queen
Mathilde—incidentally, the first-ever Belgian-born Queen
consort—who is frequently spotted in homegrown designers
like DRIES VAN NOTEN. Meanwhile, also in Brussels, DORIANE
VAN OVEREEM, a recent graduate of the fashion school La
Cambre, is working on her own version of royalty.
For her graduate collection, now on the racks at OC,
Doriane played with white fur trims, added trains to the back of
wide-leg pants in eye-popping prints, and crested sunglasses
with Swarovski crystal crowns. Below, Doriane gives us the
details and shares an exclusive shoot featuring her fall
pieces.
Shop Doriane Van Overeem HERE.
Name of your collection:
Fatherfuckers' Queen. The title reverses the insult we all know
and is an invitation to think about women's image.
Please describe it in 140 characters or less:
A mix between ideas of royalty and punk/grunge dress codes.
If you could dress anyone in it—dead or alive, real or
fictional—who would it be?
M.I.A. or Nicki Minaj—that would be awesome!
Did you use any special techniques in your collection?
Together with textile designer Céline Vahsen, I created fabrics
using artisanal velvet flocking and marbling. I also worked with
Walter Lecompte on the fur.
Favorite piece?
The BACKLESS PRINTED TOP, which is a mix of Philip Jacobs
patterns and Liberty fabric.
If you opened a Doriane Van Overeem flagship store, where
would it be and what would it look like?
I'd love to be sold anywhere in Japan! The store would be cozy
and fun because I hate those cold stores in which everything
is painted white.
What is your typical workday like?
I drink a cup of coffee, put some music on, then start working
in my little studio.
What music do you listen to?
Almost everything; it really depends on my mood. At the
moment I'm really into L7, a riot grrrl band from the 80s and
First Aid Kit, which is really soft and moving.
What made you choose La Cambre?
It's one of the best schools in Europe for fashion design.
Who is your ultimate Belgian fashion idol?
Dries van Noten
