Welcome to Dorking FC and The New Defence, our home ground for the
2015/16 season.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Sale and his team at Horley Town FC for their hospitality and I hope that you enjoy your visit with us today.
This is our second and what should have been our final season here at The New Defence ahead of our exciting move back to our iconic new home at Meadowbank. Unfortunately our return has been put back for a further season due to Council delays in the tendering
and construction process and we now have to wait until the 2017/2018 season.
In the meantime, we have to put any disappointment behind us and ensure our Club continues to make good progress on and off the pitch. Our vision remains focused on
continuing to rebuild Dorking FC as a respected football club but also as a social enterprise by re-establishing It as an iconic club at the heart of its rural community.
We have already seen strong growth on the pitch this season across all our teams - including the Ladies, Under 18s and the First Team, who are progressing well and in with a
chance of a top six finish.
A big thank you goes to our football management team, my fellow Board members, all of our volunteer helpers and of course you, our loyal supporters.
We hope you will follow us on our journey - grassroots football is important to us all, and Dorking FC hopes to make its own contribution to the benefit of everyone.

An injury ravaged Dorking team turned in an uncharacteristically lacklustre performance, and paid the price with a comprehensive defeat at promotion chasing Abbey Rangers.
The Chicks came into the game on a run of good form that has primed then to challenge for a top six place, while Abbey’s progress has been meteoric as they sit in second place, yet to be beaten this year.Yet, in bitingly cold conditions, both teams struggled to make meaningful attacks in the opening stages. It was Dorking who had the first serious attack on goal, after nearly a quarter of an hour, as rapid winger Dan Bransbury raced clear and fired a shot that beat the keeper but crept just wide of the far post.
But as the weather began to clear, so Rangers began to link up in the final third and they took the lead on 20 minutes as the ball broke to Carey, unmarked on the edge of the box, and he made no mistake shooting low past keeper Andrew Osei into the far corner of the net.There was a further setback for the Chicks just a few minutes later as Bransbury joined the lengthy injury list, forced off by a muscle strain that had been troubling him since the start. With Bransbury’s departure went Dorking’s attacking threat and, as Abbey Rangers began to grow in confidence, the Chicks found themselves second to the ball in midfield and limited to hopeful long passes going forward.
Rangers deservedly extended their lead just before half time, with the goal of the game from Paul Hodges. The pacy midfielder knocked the ball past two rather static Dorking defenders on the right hand edge of the box and raced onto it before curling a beautiful shot into the top left hand corner of the net.

dashed. Left back Michael Fowler retired at the interval with a broken toe and Rangers took full advantage, finding time and space in the penalty area and adding a third goal just three minutes after the restart.
Dorking have built remarkable resilience and team spirit and have been enjoying one of their best seasons of recent years, but it deserted them in Chertsey as Abbey Rangers took full advantage, camping out in the Chicks half and adding two further goals in the next ten minutes and completing the rout with a sixth 15 minutes from the end.
Dorking brought on local teenager Ryan Lunn, who added some creativity and determination upfront, beginning to link up well with captain Martin Smith, who was playing in an unfamiliar central midfield position. But it was too late to change the outcome.
It was unusual in recent times to see Dorking play with so little commitment, and they paid the price, but manager Glynn Stephens will consider it just a blip in an otherwise positive season which still promises a strong finish if the Chicks can get back on track against Sandhurst Town today.

By now, you will probably have read or heard the the news in the local paper or on radio. Mole Valley District Council informed us just before Christmas that they had not yet selected a contractor and they would be delaying the rebuilding of our Meadowbank home. As a result, they can no longer meet the long-standing commitment to bring Dorking FC home for the 2016-17 season and we must spend a third year ground sharing.
This unexpected third season without a home ground puts a huge burden on our club. With no significant means of generating revenue, we now need to raise £30,000 to see us through the year. If we fail, the consequences are simple - Dorking FC will have to fold this summer, bringing an end to 136 years of football history and heritage in the town.
The fundraising is underway.
We have a great vision for the future of the club as a community and social enterprise at Meadowbank. There are three ways to contribute to the fundraising to make it happen:

Loans with Tax ReliefIndividuals can make Community Investment Loans for a minimum of £1,000. Because of Dorking FC’s Community Interest Club status, loans will benefit from Social Investment Tax Relief - which is designed to encourage investors to support social enterprises, like Dorking FC.
Individuals making an eligible investment can deduct 30% of the cost of their investment from their income tax liability for the tax year in which the investment is made, or for the previous year. The investment must be held for a minimum period of three years.

THE HISTORY OF DORKING FCFootball has been played in Dorking since the 1830’s. It was first played in the street, and an annual ‘match’ took place every Shrove Tuesday in
Dorking’s High Street. Those on the east of St Martin’s were one team known as the East-enders and those to the West, on the opposing team, were the Westenders. The “pitch” extended all the way from London Bridge Road to the Washway Bridge in Station Road.
The match was preceded by a procession led by a band and men dressed as women collecting donations and carry-ing a cross inscribed with words “kick away both Whig and Tory, wind and water, Dork-ing’s glory”. On the left of the cross was a red, white, and blue ball representing the Union, on the top a gold ball representing the winners, and on the right a red and green ball representing the ‘cockerel colours’ of Dorking. Celebra-tions went on well into the evening when pre‐match collections were first distributed to shopkeepers for window damage and the balance con-sumed in beer at The Sun.
This tradition continued until 1905 when it was outlawed after ten years of suppression, and by which time Association Football had defined formal
rules for the game in 1863 (dic-tating kicking only) when rugby went one way with hands, and “soccer” (abbreviation for Asso-ciation Football) went the other with feet. By now Dorking Foot-ball Club had formed in 1880, establishing itself as the second oldest football club in
Surrey and one of the oldest in the country. The club originally played in green and red striped shirts with white shorts – the three colours representing the famous Dorking cockerel.
The cockerel was also very apparent as the main feature of the club’s badge, and hence the club soon became affec-tionately known as “the Chicks”.
The team first played at a site on West Bank before moving to a pitch off Fairfield Drive and then later to Pixham Lane in the 1920s. The Chicks didn’t move to its current location at Meadowbank until 1953 when their success demanded better facilities and a new ground was built on an old dumpsite.
The new Meadowbank had a capacity of 5000 and a stand that accommodated 700. The ground was opened by the then FA Secretary Sir Stanley Rous and was inaugurated by an exhibition match against Corin-thian Casuals. Dorking’s most successful FA Cup run followed in 1955 when they beat Folkestone 3 – 1 in front of a home crowd of more than 4000 before going out in the next
round to local rivals Epsom. In the 1950s annual spectator club membership stood at more than 1000.

SANDHURST TOWN:CLUB HISTORY
Sandhurst Football Club was formed in 1910 and played in the Reading & District League until 1979 apart from a short spell in the East Berkshire Football League. In 1979, the Club was elected into the Aldershot & District Football League.1984
saw the Club finish as runners-up from whence they became founder members of the Chiltonian Football League and a stepping-stone toward becoming a senior club.
The best season in the Chiltonian Football League was in 1986-1987 when they finished in second place. In 1990 the Club applied for membership of the Combined Counties Football League and were granted senior status by the Berks & Bucks County Football Association. The first two seasons were disastrous finishing in bottom place on each occasion and only escaped relegation back to the Chiltonian Football League at the end of the second season due to the resignation
of another member club. However, the form of the Club improved dramatically thereafter with manager Peter Browning bringing the Club the Aldershot Football Association Senior Invitation Challenge Cup in his first season followed by the
Southern Combination Cup. Since then, the first team have managed to finish 5th in the premier division of the Combined Counties Football League, and in season 2006/2007 were winners of the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy.
The first ground used by the Club was a field adjacent to the Bull & Butcher public house that may well have been used as the club headquarters. After a few years, a move was made to the Memorial Park where the Club remained until the 1996
close season, apart from a couple of seasons during the 1950’s spent on a nearby pitch in St. John’s Road.
The introduction of the National Lottery prompted an immediate bid for funding for a new ground in Bottom Meadow adjacent to the Memorial Park. With support and backing through additional matched funding from Bracknell Forest
Borough Council and Sandhurst Town Council, the Club were successful in the first round of allocations by the National Lotteries Charities Board.

The new facilities opened in August 1997 at a cost of £265,000.The club celebrated it’s Centenary season in 2010/11 winning the League Cup final and getting through to two other semi-finals as well as finishing 7th in the Combined
Counties League Premier Division our best league position for many years.
In the season 2013/14 we added three new exciting squads of youngsters for the first time in our long history. An U18’s, U16’s playing in the prestigious FA Junior Premier League winning the league and runners up in league cup and U13’s
squads. They ran alongside our existing 1st team, U18’s and ladies team. The youngsters benefitted from the expertise and experiences the club and it’s team had to offer and were vital step for us building a stronger future. we were able to take
direct control of player development and progression to the senior squads.
This year we kick the season off with seven teams:- a First team playing in the Combined Counties; a Reserve team playing in the Aldershot and District League; a Development team playing in Hellenic
East Div 2’a Veterans team playing in the Farnham League; a Ladies team playing in the Thames Valley Women’s League; an U18’s team playing in the Allied Counties Youth League and U15
