S.O.S. CAN YOU HELP? The Dorridge District Residents Association (DDRA) is very short of Committee members. The Knowle Dorridge & Bentley Heath Forum is doing a wonderful job but its role is limited to the completion of the Neighbourhood Plan after which, we understand, it will disband. Potentially this will leave only the DDRA to galvanise support for, and highlight future community issues. Other important work that the committee undertakes includes the promotion and organisation of local activities such as Dorridge and Bentley Heath village centres Christmas Lights, the Heartstart training and this community Newsletter. The supportive Committee meets for two hours on a Monday evening at Hogarth’s Hotel approximately 6 times per year. Email, basic internet skills and enthusiasm are the only essential tools for the job. Will you help - please? Email: dorridgeresidents@ gmail.com CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON: DORRIDGE CENTRE ON MONDAY 27TH NOVEMBER - 6PM. & BENTLEY HEATH SHOPS ON FRIDAY 1ST DECEMBER 4.30PM After last year’s success the dates of the Christmas Lights switch on in Dorridge and Bentley Heath have now been confirmed. The Dorridge event will take place at 6pm in Arden Square and the Bentley Heath event will take place outside Vernon James Butchers and the Post Office at 4.30pm. As per last year expect a range of refreshments and entertainment. HEARTSTART SESSIONS We are planning to hold another Heartstart training session probably at Dorridge Village Hall in November (details to be confirmed). The aim is to train people in what to do if they see someone collapse. This enables those involved to assess the situation, call for help and administer early basic resuscitation which greatly enhances the victim’s chances of a healthy survival. We are very keen to train as many people as possible – we don’t know in advance when or where these things happen, or who will be there looking on – it could be you! It really helps if you know what to do! The sessions are led by our local First Responder team – they bring videos for instruction, and dummies to practice chest compression and other techniques on. The team give their time for free – there will be a bucket available at the session for cash donations to them for equipment funds etc. DDRA pays for the hire of the Hall, and members of the committee serve light refreshments. If you have not yet done this training and would like to, please email me at [email protected] and I will add your name to the waiting list and let you know when the session is being held. LOCAL POLICINGLocal police officer Sharon Grant asks that non-immediate crime be reported through www.west-midlands.police.uk as the old 101 phone number experiences long delays. The new website: www.wmnow.co.uk provides useful community alerts from the Police and their partners. In this area the biggest crime wave is car theft from three gangs who are periodically active. They primarily target Ford STs, Audi and BMW makes from driveways. Each car is accessed through the driver’s window by-passing the alarm. Police advice is to fit a Disclok to the steering wheel and one or two hidden tracking devices. Thieves normally check for one ‘tracker’ but currently do not anticipate two. At the start of the school holidays and a few weeks later Bentley Heath Recreation Ground was put out of action for the community by the arrival of two groups of Travellers. They defaced the area with rubbish and intimidated local shopkeepers and shoppers with their aggressive behaviour. The police advise shopkeepers to be more proactive and lock their doors and let only local shoppers in. Police cannot prosecute a community for anti-social behaviour, only specific individuals and clear evidence is essential; mobile phone footage showing the perpetrator in action would be accepted.

On a very positive note there were no reported incidents of anti-social behaviour from young people during the school holidays.

NEW BUSINESSES IN THEDORRIDGE CENTREIt’s really good to see that the revitalised Dorridge centre continues to attract new businesses.

Joal Interiors in Station Approach is about to celebrate its first anniversary here. The interior design team wish to thank the community for its kindness and support.

Some had coffee mornings, sold plants, performed in a play or made street and door to door collections which raised an amazing £10,518.79. This incredible achievement in the present uncertain climate deserves a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to the people who responded and showed concern for some of the world’s poorest people. Please go online at www.christianaid.org.uk to see how and where the money is spent.

KNOWLE AND DORRIDGEROUND TABLE...would like to thank the many local residents that braved the weather to come to Dorridge Day this year. We really hope that despite the weather you were able to enjoy the event. We had a number of number of cancellations due to the weather and had to alter the entry and exit system because of unauthorised encampments in the area, so thank you for your patience. We were still able to have some stunning arena acts including the Above and Beyond trapeze artists and 492 Squadron Air Cadets, we also had some great local stalls, 26 classic cars and of course the bouncy fun area.

It really is very rewarding to be one of the organisers and helpers for this local event,  it is a collaboration from many local organisations, but only continues because of the support from the local community.

If you would like to find out more about Round Table please get in touch [email protected]

TESCO COMMUNITY FOOD CONNECTION...is donating food; to local, not for profit, charities and community groups; who offer food or meals to support their activities.
