Chaplain Chat As we return for another Term many would

have observed the Christian message of the

Cross and Jesus from Good Friday to Easter Sunday or

as it is known as resurrection Sunday. Many others simply relaxed and enjoyed Easter Eggs

and chocolate in abundance. Either way provided great

family engagement from children to adults. I would like to highly recommend two upcoming

calendar events.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden News We are still harvesting plenty of tomatoes from our summer crop. Some of the capsicums, eggplants and large pumpkins will be ready now too. Corn, beans and tomatoes have been preserved or frozen due to the kitchen not being utilized over the holiday break.

A huge thanks to the Helleren family for looking after the chickens over the holidays. The chickens are much loved by students and a big part of our school activities, and we wouldn't be able to do this without wonderful reliable families such as the Hellerens.

Preparations for the fete are in full swing. We would appreciate any potted plants or cuttings to sell please. If anyone would like to help out on fete day in the kitchen, please contact Gregg through the school office.

Thanks Anna

Transition News: Welcome back! I hope you have all had an excellent Easter break. Could all parents of Year 6 students please remember to fill in and return their Application for Year 7 Placement forms as soon as possible. The final date to return these has changed to THURSDAY 22ND May, due to the curriculum day on the Friday. Thank you so much to everyone who has already returned these forms. Please do not hesitate to come and see me if you have any questions regarding the process. Miss Hinkins - Transition Coordinator

Specialist’s Corner - French In term two, there will be more focus placed on speaking in French, during class time. I have discovered that the students are quite competent with their understanding of the French language however not too confident speaking it. So please feel free to ask your child what they have learnt in French and I hope they will reply to you in French. FUN FACTS,

The Eiffel tower stands 324m tall, as tall as an 80

story building

It was the tallest man made structure in the world for

41 years and is still the tallest structure in Paris.

There are approx 700 steps that take you to the first

level of the tower, from there elevators take you to the top level.

The Arc de Triomphe, (Arch of Triumph) was army

general Napoleons idea. He wanted to honour his army with a monument similar to the kind the ancient Romans used to build. There is still the tomb of the unknown soldier under it

Dear Parents, Welcome back to school after a restful and relaxing break. Hope you all had a great holiday. Your Fundraising at Work! The grade 3 and 4 students were happy to see their new playground last Tuesday. It is a great structure and the children are enjoying the experience. Thank you to all the fundraising that took place last year to purchase this equipment. The cost was $40,000. The landscaping and seating around the playground looks great. Curriculum Day There will be a curriculum day on Friday 23rd May. Students will not be required at school that day. Staff will be working off site. Staff will also be working on Saturday 24th May to enable there to be a curriculum day before Cup Day - a four day weekend to all. SAKG Program Work has commenced on several garden beds to make them more productive. Sleepers will be used to divide the beds and give more planting space. Work will be complete by the middle of next week depending on the weather. Portable garden beds are being placed along the existing gardens and retainer walls to provide more produce. The gardens look bare, but the winter produce has been planted. Anna and Gregg are doing a great job! Prep Readiness Night This will be held on Tuesday 13th May in the staffroom. All prep staff will be in attendance. Education Day 2014 This will be held on Tuesday 20th May at 2pm to 3.30pm and 7pm to 8pm. Notices will go home soon. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the day. Staff Changes Shannon Young is on leave. Carolyn Jones is her replacement. Liz Patterson is on her honeymoon and Jay McLellan is her replacement. I know you will support the two replacement staff, until our permanent staff return. Kids Matter Dorset Primary takes great pride in the social and emotional learning of its students. It is for this reason we are embracing Kids Matter primary. Kids Matter primary was developed in collaboration with beyondblue, The Australian physiological society (APS) and The Principals Australia institute with funding by the Australian Government. It is about the well being of our student’s families and community, providing social and emotional learning. A survey was sent home this week which, once completed and returned will provide us with a platform to launch Kids Matter to the Dorset Primary school community. A great start to term 2 - Cold and wet which is great for the gardens. Kind Regards, John Jacobs Principal
