ÓskarLab is a multiplatform audiovisual project created to reach and attract the child audience, to entertain and amuse them, but also raise their awareness and educate them about Human Rights and the Rights of the Child.

Despite the dramatic frequency with which human rights are jeopardized, ÓskarLab is an optimistic film, open to the hope for a better future and trusting that future generations – the children of today – can be the catalysts for change towards a better world.

ÓskarLab therefore fills a gap in the cinematic, television and educational fields, using these communications media and their complementary multimedia and Internet projects.

It is true that many initiatives have been set in motion in order to educate and make children and teenagers aware of children’s rights and fundamental human rights, but almost all of them have turned out to be insufficient, because they used resources that are not attractive to children or got lost in conceptual approaches that are hard to understand.

In ÓskarLab there are no rhetorical speeches, just appealing stories that connect with the emotions and sensations children feel – and adults too – and which will naturally make these stories easy to understand.

ÓskarLab, aimed at a child audience, covers all the possibilities for exploitation and the entire value chain: feature-length animation film, for screening in cinemas and TV broadcast; 13-minute TV series; integrated TV series in micro-pieces of 3 minutes; social network platform 2.0; music and videoclips; children’s books and, finally, audiovisual and multimedia support material of an educative nature for teachers and parents.

The film and its related material, prepared in English, will be recorded in several languages to facilitate its international screening and circulation.

ÓskarLab tells children, through fiction in cartoon form, what Human Rights and the Rights of the Child are, in such a way that adults understand them too; both big and small have fun and become emotionally involved.

Our story begins when Fausto, the teacher of Óskar (12) and his gang (Li, Noa and Jonathan), gives them a project to present in class on Human Rights and the Rights of the Child (because

he has caught them daydreaming). Firstly, they reject the idea of asking the adults for help: ”What do grown-ups know about Human Rights. If they knew about them, they’d fulfil them”, they conclude. Óskar has an idea: Ask for help on the Internet from children all over the world!

Done deal. The reaction is immediate: they start getting replies from every corner of the planet.

All the stories are based on real events, and highly emotional they are. They flow within the film, superimposed on the central story of Óskar, whose interventions allow each and every one of them to be resolved happily.

ÓskarLab, as well as being a high-quality entertainment product, is also a social initiative that tries to publicise, educate and raise awareness of Human Rights, the Rights of the Child and the need to promote respect for these.

It is an ambitious project and tries to reach a wide audience, probably wider than any previous venture on this subject.

In view of this educative and awareness-raising dimension, numerous social organizations, having read the script, have attached themselves to ÓskarLab, and many others are interested in doing so.

So far ÓskarLab has the support of: UNICEF, THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION; THE SPANISH OLYMPIC COMMITTEE, the Council of Psychologists; the Culture of Peace Foundation; FAD, the Pequeño Deseo (Small Wish) Foundation, the Territories of Tomorrow Foundation, the ArenoTech Foundation.

The cartoon is the universal language of childhood, it grabs the attention of children and adapts better than any other formula to their perceptive capacities (colours and shapes) and allows for freer creativity than that of the real image.

The cartoon travels the world because it is the only audiovisual product that is dubbed into any language.

An original, modern and joyful drawing style has been adopted; with a “realistic” intention to respect the characters (all of them inspired by real stories) and the celebrities who lend their assistance.

The film ÓskarLab will have to make headway in a highly competitive environment, but we have great confidence that it will reach maximum dissemination due to the interest, appeal and quality of the film, as well as the opportunity and necessity to present in a novel and striking way the subject it takes on, a fact that opens up huge development possibilities in the educational field.

Oskarlab is the product of a long journey, in contrast to the intensive exploitation of purely entertainment products. Thus, as well as its screening in exclusively commercial cinemas, it is a film conceived for an extensive circuit of dissemination complementary to the commercial side: cultural and educational circuits, with thousands of halls in various countries, relying on public administrations, social and educational organizations, etc. In these the film may serve as a support tool for all educators and organizations committed to the defence of Human Rights, along with didactic material, books and DVD, in order to facilitate their use by parents and educators.

There is also an extensive network of international festivals specialized in Human Rights and related subjects.

The film and television series will also be broadcast on TV channels in their various modalities: cable, satellite, TDT, etc., with worldwide distribution.

The central musical theme – music and video clip -, composed and performed by leading figures in the international panorama, will be able to be released independently of the film.

Oskarlab is also an ambitious Internet project and constitutes the first 2.0 social platform focussed on Human Rights and the Rights of the Child whose protagonists and users are precisely the minors of any country.

OskarLab, due to its content and approach, is expecting to have, thanks to the support of Unicef and the Olympic Committee, the support of worldwide celebrities who have shown great social responsiveness, being ambassadors of humane causes.

Shakira, Alejandro Sanz and Leo Messi become part of the story itself. Also, personalities from the world of sport, music, the stage, etc. who have gained wide public recognition for their professional career and who have stood out for their compassionate commitment, present an extract from the list of Human Rights and the Rights of the Child.

Each of the personalities appears on the screen in cartoon form, but with their own voice.

Their statements conclude with a song performed in unison by all the characters, as a symbol of the aspiration of children for a better world.

Many of these celebrities may participate in live events and occasions.
