Description of Double Wakiso Family House by the architect Volker Goebel / Dipl.-Ing. / Brunnen / Switzerland / 26. August 2017 / Version 1.0.4

It is a good house because i gives living and sleeping space for 10 children and 4 care-taker-parents = very good capacity / very effective & useful

It is a good house because all the materials used are usual in Uganda : red clay stones, wood planks, sheet metal roofing and cement / concrete

It is a country house that comes with 20 x 20 meter land - you can rent it or you can rent/buy it with a contract from the Centenary Dev. Bank Ltd.

The roof is simple sheet metal roof under an angle of 5° - that is "much cheaper and more effective then the old but complex V-style saddle roof"..The wooden roof boxing on the outside makes it look much thicker then it is. Its "shows" a very solid appearance. The roof is very easy to repair.

The roof can be covered with local kikau leaves to give it a "traditional look" and that the rain can't play its music so loud on the sheet metal roof.

The rainwater gutters on the back collect 100 % of the rain water from the roof into a round tank - the big tank supplies water to the bathroom WC

Real solid doors and windows with perforated sheet metal blendings secure the house owners things and give the house owners a certain security

The high vertical window openings let air in constantly, they secure a certain privacy but the children can look out well and can even see the sky ...

The brick walls from clay stones are so solid, that it is possible to put up a 2nd floor on top and access it by separate stairs (build inside or outside)

The sheet metal oven in the kitchen will improve local health situation very much. No more open fires and fumes. There is a fumes ventilation pipe.

The house contains a bath with a toilet, a shower and a sink for washing hands, face and hair - waste water and fresh water connection from site

This is the best / cheapest Double Family House we can offer to the people in Wakiso District - it is the efficiency that counts - not the high roof ...
