Double Page Spread Deconstructions

Page 2: Double page spread deconstructions

They use two images – one of the band and one of the vocalist. This brings attention to the fact that she is part of a band but she is the main singer/leader and that the article is focused of her. The image of the main artist standing alone also links in with the pull quote. The pull quote says that she had to “step away from Evanescence” which is why it shows her alone. They have spread the main image on a whole page to make it stand out more and to attract the attention of the reader. This shows that the images in a magazine have a purpose and are not just taken randomly.

They have written a two column article that has small font. This shows that they haven’t wrote too much for the article yet there is still enough for it to be a decent, engaging article. They use a pull quote to grab your attention and make you want to read the article to find out what it’s about. They have wrote this pull quote in pink so it stands out and draws your attention to it (you look at the think that attracts your attention first).

They have made a sub-article or contents box between the two columns of the article. The have made this in pink to make it noticeable and to show that it is not apart of the main article.

They have done the drop cap in pink to give it more effect and attention. It also makes the article more interesting and attractive to the audience/reader. This is good as it keeps the reader focused on the article and what it actually says rather than just glancing over it without taking it in.

The colour scheme used seems to be black, whit and grey but they have used pink to make the pull quote, cap drop and the extra smaller box that isn’t apart of the article.

They have used a interesting font for the pull quote that draws your attention straight to it. This attracts attention to the page and therefore the article as it makes you want to understand what the pull quote is talking about. The pull quote also draws attention to the image beside it. The picture of Lily Allen is placed in a way that draws attention after the initial ‘shock-factor’ of the pull quote. The image makes it look as though she is daring you to read her story and that makes the reader/audience think there may be a secret told or something really interesting to find out in the article.

They have set the article out in four small columns. This makes the reader/audience think that there is less to read which attracts them to it more than anything else. The way they set the article out is a very smart way to deceive those who are less inclined to actually read the article and just want to look at the pictures. This is a good way to get readers used to reading articles and creating a regular subscriber to the magazine.

The colour scheme is a simply three colours, white, black and red. This shows that the magazine is for mature audiences and is not a children's magazine which would generally have a very colourful colour scheme with more than four colours.

They have spread the main image over both pages, however they have put the article over the top of the images where there is only scenery. This creates effect as it looks stylish and professional which attracts the attention of the reader/audience.The way they have set the article out is not the most effective. The way it is set out makes it look like it is a really long-winded article and it would put many people off. This is the only negative aspect I can find with this double page spread.

They have used the colour red to make words stand out. This created the effect of drawing more attention to those words giving them a bigger impact and makes the reader remember those words more. They have also done this with the image caption to make it more noticeable.

The way he is positioned is casual and makes him seem nonchalant – he seems like he doesn’t have a care in the world. This creates the effect of making you wonder how he can be so laid back and relaxed despite the fact that he is famous with hundreds of fans. This makes you want to get to know him more, it makes you want to fined out what he is like as both a music artist and a person. This make the desire to read the article higher and it seems more urgent.

The main image is of Ed Sheeran leaning against a wall with a guitar beside him.

They have used the colour scheme of white, black and red. They have used the red to make words in the coverline and title of the article. This makes the importance of what is in red stand out and drives home the fact that those are the words the producer wants you to pay attention to. The fact that the word ‘Dinosaur’ and the claw marks are both in red makes it much more noticeable and caused the reader/audience to wonder what it means. The colour scheme is simple yet effective and it shows that it is a mature magazine.

The article is set out in three small columns. This makes the reader think that there is less to read and it doesn’t put them of the thought of reading it, as it would if it was all grouped together.

The way the main image is posed links in to the title and article as it is about ‘My Dinosaur Life’ and he is posing in a sort of animalistic way that matches the image you get from the article title. This shows that the image was taken with meaning and consideration of the article.

The way they have used the red and black on the white background is effective as the white makes the two colours stand out and look more effective. This makes the magazine look very professional and stylish.
