THAAD Extended Range (ER) What Is It?

• Industry concept for THAAD capability evolution

• Two-stage interceptor for expanded battlespace

• Flexible 2nd stage, paces advancing threats

• Designed to integrate with existing THAAD Battery

Current Status

• ADM C.D. Haney, Commander of US Strategic Command, cited THAAD ER as a “funding priority program” to address the evolving

THAAD ER as a “funding priority program” to address the evolving threat in a February 26 Congressional Hearing

• MDA Budget request in FY 2016 includes THAAD Follow-On:

– $13.5M for risk reduction, concept maturation, threat evaluation

THAAD ER Quarter Scale Model

THAAD ERKey Benefits

• Contain and defeat non-ballistic threats

• Underlay for Homeland Defense (GMD)

• Extended reach for early/multiple shots

• Extends mass raid capability

• No soldier footprint increase for THAAD
