Curiousity surrounding his special chocolates grew quickly and by the end of his second year in business, The Marquis was playing the town like marionettes in his very own play of intrigue and romance. His final masterpiece came however when he crossed the paths of the Royal Prince and an unassuming bar maid who, un-benounced to the King and Queen, had been making eyes at each other for months. At hearing of this union, the King and Queen decreed the Marquis a sorcerer and had him inprisoned for life, never to touch or to consume chocolate again.

Before his arrest, he hid the secrets of his recipes in the walls of his old shop, so that one day, they might be brought to life again. Although not known by who, those recipes were found and centuries later, the legend of the Marquis de Chocolat still lives on.

“Prestat was established in 1902 by Antoine Dufour following his family’s creation of the chocolate truffle in Chambery, France, in December 1895. Intrigued by its secret recipe, Roald Dahl, author of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”’ made the Prestat Truffle the centrepiece of his scandalous novel “My Uncle Oswald”.For many years our chocolates travelled the world on board the Royal Yacht Britannia and in 1975 Prestat had the honour of being awarded a RoyalWarrant by Her Majesty The Queen. To Prestat’s further delight it was awarded a second Royal Warrant by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in her centenary year. Prestat is considered to be one of the world’s greatest chocolate businesses. Our chocolates and truffles have been enjoyed by kings and queens, sultans and maharajas, princesses and presidents, stars of stage and screen, indeed by anyone who delights in the pleasure that only the finest chocolate brings. The design of the Jewel Box is inspired by Neville Croft who owned Prestat for 30 years until the late 1970s. Neville was a flamboyant chocolatier and a playwright. Seggiano’s Fig Ball comes from Cosenza, Calabria, in southern Italy. It is a delicious and traditionally ingenious way of preserving the juicy dottato variety of figs, which have tender skins, soft seeds and are unique to this region. The figs are picked when plump and air-dried

under nets before cooking for eighteen hours at a very low temperature. By

this time they are sticky with caramelised fig juices. Shaped into balls and wrapped in fig leaves which have been cleaned, dried and steamed, they are then

oven baked at a low temperature for another two hours.

Sometimes you will find that the ripe, dark fig juices have seeped out and marked the leaves; this is a sign of

a healthy, juicy fig ball!

“Make several incisions in the rind of a lemon, stick cloves in these, and roast the lemon by a slow fire. Put small but equal quantities of cinnamon, cloves, mace, and allspice, with a race of ginger, into a saucepan with half a pint of water. Let it boil until it is reduced one-half. Boil one bottle of port wine, burn a portion of the spirit out of it by applying a lighted paper to the saucepan; put the roasted lemon and spice into the wine ; stir it up well, and let it stand near the fire ten minutes. Rub a few knobs of sugar on the rind of a lemon, put the sugar into a bowl or jug, with the juice of half a lemon (not roasted), pour the wine into it, grate in some nutmeg, sweeten it to the taste, and serve it up with the lemon and spice floating in it.”

Walter Whittard’s story begins in 1886 with the opening of his first store on London’s Fleet Street. His philosophy was always to buy the best and to guarantee quality through the use of expert buyers, blenders and roasters.

His store, full of gleaming tea caddies and brass weighing scales, was renowned for combining expert service with a specialist range of tea and freshly roasted coffee. Walter’s sons inherited his passion and 125 years later, it’s the same family commitments to quality and service that keeps the Whittard’s story and the reputation of their quality products just as strong today.

Opening Orders: All new accounts must complete a new account form prior to the initial order being shipped.

Terms: opening Orders are shipped C.O.D. certified cheque or credit card payment at time of shipping. After two orders, terms can be established by filling out a credit application. Please contact our office or your dovetale representative to receive the proper form. We accept both Visa and Mastercard. Terms for all customers with dishonoured cheques will revert to C.O.D. certified cheque/credit card payment for a one year period.

Minimum Order: The minimum opening order is $500.00. Minimum re-order is $150.00.

Back orders: All back orders for less than $150.00 will automatically be cancelled. Orders placed for new lines pending arrival will be held until arrival of product. Customers may request a split shipment and regular freight terms will apply.

Split cases: Goods must be ordered in full cases or displays.

Shipping: Orders are shipped by Fedex for small parcels or APEX LTL for heavy or larger pallet orders. A fixed freight/handling charge of 3% of the invoice value on orders over $1000.00 will be applied to all orders shipped to the ten provinces in Canada. Tailgate charges will be applied to those customers who require the use of a tailgate and/or inside delivery. Dove Tale Collections reserves the right to select the most economical method of shipment. Full freight charges will apply to orders under $1000.00.

Damages/Discrepancies: Any issues concerning the condition of merchandise received must be reported to head office within 10 days of receipt of goods. No claims received after 10 days will be permitted.

Inventory Control: It is the responsibility of the retailer to maintain proper inventory control and to rotate product on their shelves. Credit will not be issued for goods which have passed the best before code which were received by the customer more than 3 months previous. Goods are not supplied on a sale or return basis

Shelf Life: Shelf life on products varies from 3 months to 24 months. Goods shipped will always have a minimum of 3 months shelf life unless it is a short shelf life item as listed in the catalogue. Any exceptions will be discussed with the customer prior to shipping.

2. Holiday pre-book orders received are considered final and confirmed

3. Pre-book options are available only to customers in good credit standing

4. New customers and customers who have not yet established credit may take advantage of any discounts available, but will be billed by credit card at time of shipping or on COD payment terms.

6. Pre-book orders must ship in one of the two delivery windows below.

Inside delivery of palletized shipments for customers without a receiving dock is available from the delivery company for a charge of $30.00.
