Download the App

Apple devices:

1. Open the App Store on your device.

2. Enter Big Cat Reading Assessment into the search box.

3. Tap GET to install the app.

4. Tap OPEN to open the app

5. Enter your user name and password.

If you do not have a user name and password, tap the Get Started button

to register and we will email you your log in details.

6. Tap Log in

Android devices:

1. Open the Play Store on your device.

2. Enter Big Cat Reading Assessment into the search box.

3. Tap on INSTALL to download the app.

4. Tap OPEN to open the app.

5. Enter your user name and password.

to register and we will email you your log in details.

6. Tap Log in

The App

To start a reading assessment:

1. Select Assessment

2. Tap Start Session to get started.

Note: You can also continue your last assessment session by tapping Resume

last session or view/edit all your latest sessions in the Review Sessions. To open

an assessment, just tap on the child’s name!

3. Select your class from the class list.

Note: These are some sample classes. You can add your classes at

www.bigcatassessment.com in the Setup area, under Manage Registration

Classes. If you would us to add your class lists, please contact our Support Team.

4. Select the child you wish to assess.

5. Select a book for your assessment form the correct year group. Age or book band.

6. When your book loads, please press the UP arrow for your options.

7. To start the assessment tap the record button.

8. You can highlight a child’s error by tapping on a word and selecting the

appropriate Miscue error.

Note: If you accidently add the wrong Miscue, tap on the word it will bring

up the option to delete.

9. To finished, tap the record button to end the session.

Note: You can dictate or write notes by tapping the pencil.

You can also replay this recording at any time to help you finish off or review

the assessment by tapping on Recent Sessions, selecting which assessment

you would like to review, then press the Play button to listen!

10. At the end of the session you can check comprehension by asking the specially

written questions for each title. You can also make a judgement on the

comprehension by using the slider bar, adjust the slider to adjust the judgement.

11. Click ‘Save’.

The Reading Assessment Centre

1. To view all your results go to www.bigcatassessment.com and log in with the same

login details you used for the app.

2. Click ‘View results for an individual’ and hover over the child’s name at the top

to open up your class lists, then hover over the class name and select a child.

You can also View all your recent assessments or View results for a group in this area.

Top Tip: Review & edit your Miscue sessions by clicking the Miscue Page Icon!

3. Once you’ve selected the miscue session that you wish to view you can see the specific

session detail, access the audio file, and see any additional notes. The Miscue accuracy

chart tracks progress over time, and the Common miscues chart displays areas of weakness.

The ‘Live results’ give more detail on the child’s most recent miscue session, the accuracy,

comprehension and pace are tracked against age-related expectations, and a progression

plan is provided.

4. To print off the Assessment Results, please go to your browser Settings and ‘Print’

the webpage.

Top Tip: If you deselect ‘Headers and footers’ and select ‘Background graphics’ on

your Print options, your results will become enhanced.
