A PRAYER FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION
Father, Thank you for all those men and women who have given their talents to educating our young people.
Through the challenges they encounter each day, lead them to an ever deeper appreciation of the sacred duty
to which you have called them.
We give thanks for the invaluable work of all those who contribute to the efficient running of our schools; support staff, kitchen staff, maintenance staff, governors and chaplains. We thank them for their hard work
and dedication and we pray that they may continue to work in support of our schools.
Thank you for all those who lead our Catholic schools.
May they be people of integrity so that they can be witnesses as well as teachers. We pray that the schools they lead will become places where our young people can experience your love in their lives. Thank you for
our Catholic schools.
Help us to pray without ceasing, to work without wavering and to give without grudging in order to ensure the future of Catholic education for all of our children
We make this prayer through your Son, Jesus Christ, our teacher and our Lord,
Amen.

December 2018
Dear School Leaders,
In October 2015, leadership of the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Schools Office embarked on creating the first archdiocesan-wide strategic plan for Catholic schools. Based on the Data Wise Project, leadership organized a strategic planning process that was committed to the analysis of data according to the Archdiocese of Washington's four pillars of Catholic education: Catholic Identity, Academic Excellence, Affordability (Enrollment), and Govern-ance. The strategic planning process engaged the participation of principals and the archdiocesan Board of Education in workgroups, which coincided with each of the four pillars. For nearly two years, their work with the Catholic Schools Office to envision our future, analyze data, prioritize needs, and develop strategies was invaluable. In addition, teacher leadership, pastors of schools, and other offices within the Archdiocese of Washington also provided critical feedback and direction during the planning process. In developing the strategic plan, Archdiocese of Washington Catholic schools made a commitment to make decisions based on data. In order to facilitate the accomplishment of this expectation, leadership spent significant time during the strategic planning process evaluating data currently available to our school leaders, identifying what additional data would need to be collected, and then synthesized and provided to school leaders for effective archdiocesan and local strategic planning in the future. To that end, I am pleased to share with you the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Schools Strategic Data Portfolio, a resource of archdiocesan aggregate data that reflects each pillar of Catholic education. As our capacity for the use of data in our everyday work grows because of our strategic plan, so does the need for resources and tools to be made available to our school leaders. This Strategic Data Portfolio is a product of our strategic plan. Together, we will continue to build our capacity for using data in our decision-making. I hope you find this resource useful as a leader in a Catholic school. Each year, we will continually evaluate what new data will be available to leaders in this portfolio. As always, I thank you for your dedication to Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Washington.
Sincerely in Christ,
William H. Ryan, III Superintendent
