Dr. Boll Tackles Opioid Abuse at Sen. Casey Conference

With startling statistics on the growing problem of heroin and opioid abuse in our area, Dr. John Boll tackled the stereotypes of addiction to drive home the importance of resources, education and action at a press conference held by Senator Bob Casey on July 20 at the Lycoming County Commissioners’ Boardroom.

“Youth and seniors, women and men, rich and poor—opioid and heroin abuse affects everyone with one out of four families directly affected by someone addicted to opioids,” says Dr. Boll. “An adult in Lycoming County is more likely to die from a drug overdose than a car accident.”

Pennsylvania leads the U.S. in overdose deaths among males age 12 – 24, with 3,383 drug-related overdose deaths recorded in 2015— up 15 percent from the previous year.

“Each of us has a responsibility to combat this growing problem through the safe disposal of our unused pain pills, helping friends and family suffering with addiction to get the help they need, proactively asking medical professionals how to treat our pain without a narcotic, and for those of us in medicine, being compassionate to individuals who are hurting,” concluded Dr. Boll.

UPMC Affiliation FAQ – Week 9Thank you for continuing to ask questions about the upcoming UPMC affiliation. We take your questions seriously and hope that you find this ongoing communication valuable.

Recent Question

Do you anticipate changes to current office space leases with either SHMG or independent physician practices once the UPMC agreement is final?

Hospitals determine rental rates based on the fair market values for a specific geographic region. These rates are regulated by the government. Susquehanna Health meets all regulations to be sure rents are appropriate, and UPMC is required to do the same.

We invite you to continue to submit your questions to [email protected] for consideration.

As always, your ongoing support of our mission is greatly appreciated.

Changes to the Kronos Hotline Process Effective July 1, Human Resources changed how Kronos questions and issues are handled.

1. Each department should designate an employee to be the department’s Kronos Resource Person. This can be the department timekeeper, the supervisor or any other employee. This person will field and help resolve all Kronos questions for the department. Please ask your supervisor if you do not know the Kronos Resource Person for your department.

2. All calls to the Kronos Hotline, (570) 321-3100 or ext. 23100, must come from the department supervisor, the timekeeper or the Kronos Resource Person. Leave a message, and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

3. When you call with a question or issue, you will be asked if you have reviewed the Kronos manager manual or the appropriate job aid on the Human Resources page. You will be expected to have the manual or job aid available as a reference when discussing your issue.

Questions or concerns should be addressed to the department’s Kronos Resource Person. Managers should review timecards several times each week to resolve issues prior to each payroll Monday.

Please contact Payroll for historical edits and Nursing Services for the advanced scheduler.

Human Resources continues to be dedicated to answering your Kronos questions, resolving Kronos issues and providing employees any needed education or training. Thank you for your help in improving our efficiency and effectiveness.

Raised Gardens Sprouting in Muncy

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, as well as the hard work of service partners, volunteers and residents, the Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at MVH now has a large and a small raised garden bed for residents to use. Service partners and residents also recently worked together to create a vegetable garden club, which will maintain and harvest what is grown in the garden beds.

The materials for the raised garden beds, as well as some of the construction, were all locally sourced. Palcon, LLC, a Muncy business, built the large raised bed box (measuring 12’ x 4’) while the Organic Garden Center in Williamsport donated the soil, supplies and plants. Your Building Center in Muncy also provided the club with a discount on the lumber and materials.
