DAYTON, Ohio, November 2, 1971 --- One of the foremost biblical scholars in

the world, Dr. Joachim Jeremias, professor of the New Testament at the University

of Gottingen, Germany, will .deliver a public lecture on Friday, November 5 at 7:30

at the University of Dayton in Wohlleben auditorium. The topic of the lecture

J will be "The Words of Jesus in the Pauline Epistles."

Professor Jeremias has studied in particular the parables and sayings of

Jesus. For example, he wl'ote a book on the parables of Jesus that revolutionized

studies in this area. He has argued strongly that the Aramaic word, "Abba,.' was

actually used by Jesus Himself. He pioneered a method for establishing the

authentic words of Jesus in which he works from the Greek accounts as given in

the Gospels back to the originel. Aramaic that Jesus spoke.

He has written numerous articles for professional journals and has authored

a number of books. Some of those more familiar to the American audience are:

The Parables of Jesus, The Eucharistic Words of Jesus, Jerusalem in the Time of

Jesus, Unknown Sayings of Jesus, Infant Baptism in the First Four Centuries, and

The Central Message of the New Testament. His latest book in English, published

in 1971, is .,New Testament TheolOgy: The Proclamation of Jesus.

The lecture is sponsored by the Department of Theological Studies of·:the

University of Dayton. The public is cordially invited.
