Principal’s Message Mrs. Mitsopoulos Dr. Clark Families, March was a very exciting month at Dr. Clark School. Some highlights include:

- Grade 4 student, Taylor Golosky won the award for “Junior Achievement” at the Regional Aboriginal Recognition Awards. The ceremony was held on February 25 at Shell Place.

- Our school won the APPLE Schools “Healthy Cup Challenge” for a wall display highlighting healthy living

- We hosted a very successful “Family Literacy Night” that was well attended by our families.

- Students from grades 3 and 4 attended the FMPSD Board of Education meeting to talk about their experiences in the “Open Minds Program” at Heritage Park.

We are very proud of the accomplishments of our staff and students! As we head into Spring, we continue to have many activities on the go. Our students have been taking on more leadership roles in the school as we work towards becoming a Leader In Me School in September 2017. Thank you to all our families for your support of our wonderful school. We appreciate the opportunity to work with you. Sincerely, Merrie-Rae Mitsopoulos Principal

Are you dressed for winter?

Parent Council Hello Dr. Clark families, We hope you had a wonderful break for Teacher's Convention and you're all rested up for the busy and exciting months ahead! During the month of March, Parent Council is hosting the AR store for grade 2-6 students where they will spend their hard earned reading points on some really cool prizes. We will also be hosting our 2nd Annual Family Game and Book Swap Night on March 30 6:30 - 8:00pm. This is a really fun night to enjoy with your children, playing board games and getting some new books to read. Please bring your family's favorite board game to play and share. We'll have some set up also. This is also your chance to trade your books (adult/teen/children) with others, so start collecting your books that someone else might love just as much as you to trade. Parent Council will have some light snacks available that evening as well. Coming in April, we are very proud to hold out very first Paint Nite in support of the Dr. Clark Parent Council Fundraising Committee. It will take place on April 21 at 7pm. Tickets for this event are $45 and can be purchased at: http://paintnite.com/pages/events/view/fortmcmurray/1157886. The Paint Nite will be held at our school and everyone 12 and older are welcome to come. Please contact Paulette Rempel at [email protected] with any questions regarding this event. As always, we welcome you to our Parent Council meetings, held on the first Tuesday of every month at 2pm in the office meeting room. We love to have new members and volunteers. Please see the front office for information on volunteer opportunities and application forms for your free Criminal Record Check.

Healthy Choices

Did You Know? · Eating healthy foods every day is important to help your child do his or her best in school

and give them energy to play outside with their friends. · Canadians are exposed to an estimated 4000 ads every day! Advertisements for breakfast cereals, fruit snacks and juice boxes are everywhere; on kids’ TV shows, on websites, and in magazines. The key is to not be tricked!

· The top two best drinks for kids are water and milk. The human body is 60-75% water, so it’s important to stay hydrated! · Not all juices are created equal. Check to see if the juice you serve is 100% Fruit or Vegetable Juice. · A serving of juice should only be a ½ cup. A better alternative to receive all the benefits of fruit is to eat fresh fruit. · If the box says the word “drink, beverage, punch, or cocktail”, the beverage may contain some portion of juice but there will be added sugar. Why do you think companies use images of fruits on their containers if there isn’t real fruit in the container? Because the pictures increase their sales –So don’t get tricked. A healthy beverage should say “100% Juice”. Read the label carefully. The truth is tasty!
