• The knowledge & innovation community (KIC) focused on energy in the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT)

• A new output-oriented innovation engine aligned with European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-plan) and societal changes complementing other R&D and innovation instruments

• Integrating the business, education and R&D knowledge triangle

• A company run as a company with 29 shareholders from industry, university and research institutes (~ 1/3 each) from 8 countriesco-funding activities

European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan)

• Establishes an energy technology policy for Europe • A strategic plan to accelerate the development and

deployment of cost-effective low carbon technologies• Cover actions relating to planning, implementation, resources

& international cooperation in the field of energy technology

• Seven Energy Industrial Initiatives were established 2009:
