What is language proficiency?
• It’s not about passing a test or getting the right answer.
• It’s about what students CAN DO with the language: their ability to use a language for a variety of purposes, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
• Proficiency is commonly measured using guidelines developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
Parental Support
• Commit to long-term participation in the immersion program in order for the benefits of the program to be fully realized.• Read with your child in English 20-30 minutes
daily.• Develop an understanding of immersion
education and Chinese culture.• Encourage kids to be curious and open to explore
other languages and cultures.
