University on 21.06.2019. All the university officers

have participated on this occasion at CoH, Venkatara-

mannagudem and explained about the importance of

Yoga in improving daily mental and physical activity

and also performed some of the important yogasanas.

Guest Lecture

Dr. M.M. Krishna, Rtd. Professor, Certified Food Scientist (CFS)

delivered a guest lecture on the topic ‘Appropriate and low cost

postharvest technologies for small farmers’ on 24.06.2019 at CoH,

Anantharajupeta.

Research

In an experiment for 2018-19 conducted at farmers field at B.

Kamapalli village of Rly. Kodur, Kadapa district on management

of thrips in mango cv. Neelum by D. Srinivas Reddy, Sr. Scientist

(Entomology) CRS, Tirupati, the research findings noted that the

lowest percent thrips damage on fruits was observed in 1%

neem oil spray (10.62%) followed by spinosad 45 SC (10.96%)

and acephate 75SP which showed a damage of 13.00% then fol-

lowed by fipronil 5SC (14.67%) whereas higher damage was noted in thiamethoxam (44.09%),

pongamia soap (41.11%) and in control(50.5%). It was also observed that the timing of treatment

is a major factor in avoiding thrips damage especially on mango fruits rather than the type of

insecticides (conventional and new) used. As this work being carried out for the first year, a one

more year findings is required to come to a conclusion for recommendation to mango growers for

control of this serious outbreak of pest in recent years, due to changing climate scenario in Andhra

Pradesh.

Volume.V, Issue–12 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 16th —30th June,2019

In an experiment conducted at HRS, Ananthrajupeta by D. Srinivas Reddy, Sr. Scien-

tist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati, on “Management of thrips infesting capsicum under

protected conditions” it was noted that spraying of acephate 75SP @ 1.5g/l followed

by application of spinosad 45SC @ 0.3ml/l proved to be effective with minimum

thrips damage rating of 1.00, 0.80 and 0.40 at 21, 35 and 50 days after transplanting

in cultivar, Ayesha. It was also observed that spraying of neem oil @1% showed

phytotoxicity (leaves dropping, blackening of buds and leaf scorching) in the month

of May.

During 28th Annual Group meeting of AICRP on Palms held at TNAU from 6-8th June, 2019 the

experiments Coc./Ent.2 : Evaluation of Botanical cake and Paste for the management of Rhinoceros

beetle infesting juvenile palms and Coc. /Ent.3 Integrated management coconut eriophyid mite was

concluded at HRS, Ambajipeta. The following recommendations were given for farmers adaption.

1. Application of Botanical cake @ 2-3 per palm @ 15g./palm in the 2-

3 inner most leaf axils starting from June at quarterly interval for

the management of coconut rhinoceros beetle.

2. Adaption of following IPM package for the management of eriophyid mite

Recommended dose of NPK fertilizers

Vermicompost @ 20 kg/palm

20 kg FYM/palm

Neem cake @ 5 kg/palm

Keraprobio @ 100 gm/palm

Burial of coconut husk in the interrows

Palm oil suspension @ 1lt/palm (during December)

Fenpyroxymate 5 % EC @ 10 ml + 20 ml water/palm (March)

Green manuring with Cowpea / sunnhemp in the coconut basins
