Title Still shot Enigma Compare
The Workman - Sam Ling AS Media Opening Sequence
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg2KMgWFLcU
Staring by showing the time. This builds enigma, because by showing the time, the director wants you to see how the action happens, and what time it is.
Showing a daily routine of his life, e.g. Brushing teeth, going toilet etc. This builds enigma because it shows everything as it should.
This connects to our opening sequence, because it shows a day of Melane’s life, and how it happens, because she goes shopping, also because she is going to go toilet.

This build enigma, by showing a young girl walking on the street by herself, because no one knows where she is going.
In our opening sequence we have some shots, of the main actress walking on her way in central, by herself. Also we have long shots of her walking. Also it shows that the girl is isolated, because from a busy road, she will go into a alley way. This shows she is isolated.
Extreme Close up shot of her eyes build enigma, because it gives detail of her eyes.
We also have extreme close up shots in our opening sequence. When her mascara runs off while crying. Shows emotions.
Transitions- it build enigma because it gets from a scene to another scene, which makes the audience think what will happen between the 2 scenes.
We are using transitions in our opening sequence, to make the audience think what has happened between the 2 scenes.

How are we applying the Theories of Todorov
Theories of Todorov
How we are applying Picture Anatation of image
Equilibrium To be Balanced
Girl is walking normally in the street with shopping bags
By Melanie looking sad and straight face expression on in this picture is shows that she has lots of pressure on her and have been have difficulties in dealing with them
Disequilibrium To be Unbalanced
Flashbacks - Eating disorderMaking her feel sickBinging eating and vomiting Looking at her self in the mirror and squeezing her belly trying to look slimmer. Photographer being aggressiveOn the edge of the bridge
New Equilibrium The reason why we are not including New balanced its because the girl doesn't find a way to became balanced again during the opening sequence .
However at the end of the whole film, she has asked for help and continued with her career.
By Melanie smiling in this picture is shows that she is more comfortable about her self and accepts the way she looks also shows that she has gone back to what she used to do and its happy with her job.

current point of the story in media or literature.
Flashbacks
• A scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point the story has reached
Theories of Vladimir Prop
How we are applying
Flashback Shows the character walking, and remembering what happened to her. For this we will use close up shots , and transitions, to make it show that it is a flashback. By this we will give information to our audience, about what happened to the character before.
Flash forward There is not flash forward in our opening sequence, because the story line is happening in the present and we don't want to give away what will it happen in the future with her
How are we applying the Theories of Strauss
• A pair of related terms or concepts that are opposite in meaning
• E.g. alive or dead
• Warm or cold
• Day or night
Part P
TITANIC
• A long shot of the two principle
characters dancing on the ‘Poor’ part
• Titanic is a perfect film that applied Strauss theories because the film is about
two different social class. In
this shot that is a two shot of the ‘Rich’ people on
diner table
Plot: A boy and girl from differing social backgrounds meet during the ill-fated
maiden voyage of RMS Titanic.
