HEALTH AND WELLBEING REPORT NOVEMBER 2017

Joan Forest

This year Health and Wellbeing Committee has focused on plans for emergency drills and designing a form that can be signed by residents giving permission to release information to individuals each designates should they have medical problems or be away from campus.

We discovered that various emergency plans had been designed in the previous four years and had not been acted on. The Resident Services Director is Health and Wellbeing’s connection to management. In the past four years there have been four Resident Services Directors. This fact has been instrumental in the lack of implementation of the plans. There have been only two drills in the past four years each based on two different plans. Copies of all existing plans have been submitted to the current Clerk of the Association. All four plans have elements that could be incorporated into a final plan which then needs to be acted on and improved as necessary after it is implemented. One allows residents to go to whichever meeting place is closest to where they are at the time of the drill and requires a staff person with a phone to communicate thatresident’s presence there to the staff person at the location where theresident would go if he or she were in his or her apartment. Thus, staff participation is necessary. There needs to be a way to implement plans in spite of the frequent replacement of Resident Services Director that includes participation by staff.

A release form for release of medical information was finally approved by management at the end of this fiscal year and now needs to be distributed to residents who wish to have this form on file.

The final project that was introduced at the end of this fiscal year wasa list of residents who wish to recommend or disapprove of medical personnel in the Friends House area to be available to other residents who need hep in finding appropriate medical providers. This project has not yet been acted on by the Health and Wellbeing Committee and must go on the agenda for the upcoming year.

Sight & Sound Committee Report

Friends House Residents Association Annual Meeting16 October 2017

The Sight & Sound Committee serves the residents atscheduled events in the Library/Multipurpose Room. We are the ones who:

-- provide microphones for Tues/Thurs programs-- project computer graphics for programs-- show movies on Saturday evenings-- provide earphones for hearing impaired -- record audio for meetings when requested-- provide audio/visual for Memorial Services

We also make available two portable loudspeakers with wireless microphones for committee meetings.

There are five members of the committee who serve one week at a time in rotation:

Joanie PrzekopClarke Dixon-MosesRuth Paine Joe PanaroGeorge Sackman

In case a member needs to be absent, they just arrange to trade duty with another member. New members are always welcome. A new member spends a year as an apprentice, working with a mentor, in order to be confident before working alone.

New equipment this year consists of 2 loudspeakers and a power audio amplifier to replace ones damagedin an electrical failure. Cost was shared between Residents Association and FH management since they also use the equipment.

Respectfully submitted,George Sackman, committee coordinator
