Future Looks Bright for 8th

Graders on Field Trip

By Logan Ownbey

The 8th grade field trip gave our

2020 graduating class the

opportunity to observe a couple of

options for our future possible

careers after high school. Blue

Ridge Community College offers

a lot of medical opportunities. It

also can offer a number of regular

college classes. Blue Ridge is a

great opportunity for high school

graduates.

James Rumsey Technical College

gives you a lot of job

opportunities by teaching you the

strategies of getting into business,

from regular handy work to

running the full business. This

school can also offer college

credit classes that you can take du

ring high school.

Top Player, #10 Blake Hartman

Dragon Sports Talk

By Logan Walls

The first school pep rally was

followed by an eagerly awaited

home boys’ basketball game. The

seventh grade boys’ game was a

hit! Mountain Ridge won 60-34

crushing Musselman! The eighth

grade boys’ team also won. The

girls’ game went a bit differently.

The seventh grade lost, as well as

the eight. South Middle is better

than we expected. When asked

how she thought the game went,

MRMS player, Hannah Barrow

admitted, “I think we could have

done better. We need to work on

really going for the ball.” On

December 12th, they must have

taken their own advice because

they won this game and plan to

keep on winning in the future.

This month’s top player was

Blake Hartman, #10. Look for

more exciting sports news in our

next issue.

The History of Christmas

By Canyon Church

Christmas today is both a

religious holiday and a holiday

that basically everyone in the

world celebrates in many different

Page 4: Dragon’s Lair News · admitted, “I think we could have done better. We need to work on really going for the ball.” On December 12th, they must have taken their own advice because

ways. It starts all the way from

Santa putting presents under your

tree to witches putting a toy in

your shoe. Ever since 1870,

December 25 (the day of

Christmas) has been a holiday.

Ever since then Christmas has

been celebrated in many different

ways including religious belief

and different country belief. Such

as in the Christian belief

Christmas was the day that Jesus

Christ was born, and that in the

U.S.A good old Saint Nick (Santa

Claus) will put presents under

your Christmas tree, Also how

that in Germany either Saint Nick

or the Christ child will only give

gifts to certain areas. And that’s

only a few facts about the

Christmas holiday so know you

can understand how happy you

should be because all other places

only get one present, but most of

you get a ton! But in most of the

Christmas celebrations, there are

the famous Dasher, Dancer,

Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid

(not the Valentine’s Day person),

Donner, Blitson, and the most

well-known Rudolph. And

upcoming this Christmas, is

Rudolf’s birthday. But no he is

not young like he was back when

he was created, in 1949, he is now

a whopping 79 years old. Well

that’s it but I hope you have a

Merry Christmas and a Happy

New Year!
