Shelia Winn Shakepeare- Actors• Your task will be based on rehearsing a piece of Shakespeare for the Shelia

Winn Shakespeare competition.

• In groups you will present a performance of the prescribed script of no more than 15 minutes in length that includes movement, use of space and use of voice to demonstrate a clear understanding of the use of drama techniques.

• These 15 minute scenes will be combined into a full length performance to be performed as a class production.

• You will be directed by the Level 3 students under guidance from the teacher.

• The assessment will focus on your use of drama techniques.

• You will need to provide written evidence to support your choice of techniques and performance.

Use of drama techniques

• Prior to the start of our rehearsals of the Shakespeare pieces we will do a series of classes on each specific drama techniques.

• This will ensure that both actors and directors are confident in using drama techniques effectively.

Instructions• This activity will take place over a period of ten weeks and will involve class

and out-of-class time.• In this activity you will perform an acting role in a scripted production for an

audience. The production will involve scenes from Shakespeare and will be based on the theme Crimes and Misdemeanours

• The scenes will be chosen by your teacher and your role will be assigned.• To help you to understand and reflect on your acting role, you will record

your development in your portfolio. Your portfolio should include:• An annotated working script of the scene• Character notes• Play research• Rehearsal log and schedule• Assessment will be based on:

– Your appropriate participation in the production process and active support of the production team

– Your written record of the development of your role– Your ability to develop and sustain an acting role

Task 1 Preparation • As a class we will explore various drama techniques and how they

may used. We will also look at various ways of presenting Shakespeare and the nature of Shakespearian text.

• The teacher will explain and discuss the selected scenes based on the theme Crimes and Misdemeanours. You will be given an opportunity to audition for a role/s of your own choice. You will then be assigned an acting role in a scene.

• Discuss with your teacher and the director the framework of the production. Record this framework in your portfolio. Then discuss with your own group how your individual scene will fit into this overall framework. Explore ways in which the scenes can be linked cohesively and creatively. For example:

• Narration• Music• Dance• Visual Display

Task 2 Research

• In order to research your role in your scene, record brief answers to the following on your wiki page.

• Your teacher will assist you with this task.• A: The world of the Playwright• What are the important biographical details of the playwright?• At what time and in what country did the playwright live?• How did this affect their writing?• B: The world of the character• Describe the physical and personal characteristics• Describe your character’s relationship with other characters• What happened before and after your scene?• Describe the motivation for your character• Describe the feeling/emotions of your character in the scene

Task 3 Rehearsal

• During the rehearsals you will be expected to fulfil the following:• A: Commitment to production process• Memorise lines to meet the requirements of the rehearsal deadlines• Attend rehearsals to meet the requirements of the rehearsal schedule• Completion of rehearsal log should include an evaluation of your

participation and development on a weekly basis, the contribution of other members in your scene, and a comment on the final rehearsal.

• Positive approach to rehearsal process which acknowledges necessity of group co-operation.

• B: Exploration during production process• Exploration of the ways voice, movement and use of space can create and
