SO, DO WE. THAT’S WHY WE’RE CREATING ORIGINAL DRAMA WITH A CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW. Faculty Adviser: Robert Oscar Lopez, Professor of Humanities Scarborough Drama Club At Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary The goal of our drama club is to preach the Word and reach the world by producing high-quality multicultural theatrical content with a Christian worldview, designed for use in missions and evangelism beyond the church. CLUB GOALS: We disciple young creative Christians in all areas of dramatic production, developing career skills in theatrical management, by giving students responsibility in all aspects of theatre from conception to execution. CLUB STRUCTURE: The Scarborough Drama Club is a student organization based on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Its institutional home is in the L.R. Scarborough College. The club is designed to work in tandem with faculty, through Creative Writing classes in the undergraduate curriculum, and with Missions, through performances of original plays in the mission field. CURRENT PLAY (2020): Lady and the Girl,” CREATIVE DIRECTOR: Daniel Dudley The story of Mary Todd Lincoln’s stormy friendship with Elizabeth Keckley, the African American woman whose dressmaking skills freed her from slavery. A tale of friendship, betrayal, forgiveness, and faith. (See Luke 12:27) UPCOMING PLAYS: “Tacubaya” CREATIVE DIRECTOR: Justin Crawford 2021 In the winter of 1847-48, Ulysses Grant and other American soldiers find themselves in a cultural and religious limbo. They await the treaty to end a war in a Mexican city full of intrigue, bullfighting, gambling, and philosophical debate. (See Isaiah 2:4) “Chin” CREATIVE DIRECTORS: Tuan Ceu, Moses Bawi, Van Hlu (2022) A forthcoming play telling the long- overlooked stories of the Chin people in Burma, persecuted for their Christian faith amid complex political struggles. The play must lift the audience out of this world into a place where they reflect upon the unique nature of God’s power.”
