Legacy video review

• With a partner write down two bits of information that you remember from the “Legacy” video (look at your civilization organizer”) and write each on a post it.

• Next, come up to the board and tell the class about the three bits of knowledge that you and your partner wrote and place the post-its on the board.

Now, let’s look at the route the Aryans most likely took.

• Get your semester project map out as we go through this you can fill in some information about the Aryan movement into Ancient India.

• First with a partner define the words “migration” and “invasion”. What similarities are there? Differences?

• Why do you think historians are a bit uncertain about this period of history?

Historical Debate

• Congratulations!! You now have a PhD. in history from Harvard University. You are going to debate with your peers, as to whether or not you believe it was an “Aryan migration” or an “Aryan invasion”.

• Task: you will read an article debating both sides of the issue. As you read you will…

• 1. Create a T-chart. Label one side “Evidence for Invasion” and the other side “Evidence for Migration”.

• 2. Read the article. Highlight important points and circle words you don’t know or questions that you have.

• 3. We will have a Socratic Seminar on the issue. So, you need to come up with two higher level questions to bring to the debate for both sides. Look at the Bloom’s Taxonomy chart to the right to help you formulate questions that will get us discussing and thinking!!!! (Remember “yes/no” questions are closed ended.. No debate possible). You must also answer YOUR OWN QUESTION.
